Hi I'm Pat

I am a third generation miner and grew up in a small mining town in Arizona. I am now an environmental specialist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Cottonwood Heights by Sandy, Utah until I was fourteen. My father was transferred to a different copper mine and we moved to Kearny, Arizona. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. I learned more about the real world in that small town than I would have been able to learn in the city I was so used to. I met my sweetheart in Thatcher, AZ when we were both 18 and she waited for me while I served on a mission to Padova, Italy. We now have eight wonderful children. I earned a degree in Geology from Arizona State University and I slowly turned that into a career in environmental compliance. I no longer work in mining. I started working for Honeywell as environmental compliance specialist in July of 2011. I love learning and have tried to teach myself Mandarin over the last couple of years. Not really a roaring success but a lot of fun.

Why I am a Mormon

I lived as a mormon until I was fourteen mostly because my parents are mormon and full of their faith. Their faith and experiences were so strong that I have never doubted that they believed in God. At fourteen though I started to doubt my experience and faith. My father warned me that even though he didn't expect me to accept his faith, he did expect me to attend all of the required church meetings. I did so with a cynical heart. By the time I was sixteen the spirit had slowly removed that cynicism and allowed me to be pricked instead. My own faith began to grow and I finally realized that I wasn't relying on anyone else's testimony. While I haven't had a trouble free life from then on I haven't looked back. I am a mormon because I find so much peace and joy in following the spirit of the Lord. That spirit has lead me to realize that it's voice is mainly heard by peace in the heart. I know that Jesus has applied the atonement to my life and saved me from eternal torment. He applies that peace to my heart almost every day and so I know almost every day that he is real. I am grateful for Him and pray that he counts me as his servant.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by participating in the Boy Scouts program as much as I can. I have been a scoutmaster or assistant scoutmaster for about eight of the last eighteen years. I have been an advancement chairman for about four of those eighteen years. I have only not been involved with scouts for three of the last eighteen years. I am currently one of the assistant district commissioners for the Superstition District in the Grand Canyon Council. My father was my scoutmaster for almost the entire time I was growing up and I loved having him take me to Boy Scout camp. I try to do the same with my boys and always donate five days of my vacation time every year to my son's troop to make certain that there is adequate adult supervision with the Boys. I truly love the scouting program because I have seen how it has helped me and my boys time and time again in my life and theirs.
