Hi I'm Jan

I'm a Mormon. I joined the church in 1997 when I was 46 years old.

About Me

I am a retired single lady, but I continue to work part time in the medical field because I enjoy working and enjoy what I do. Sometimes I think I would like to go back to school, but finishing my masters degree was enough homework for me! Besides, my pets (two dogs, two cats, and three rats) like having me home with them. My hobbies, besides my animals, include writing fiction, art work, geneology, and refurbishing a quilt I made when I was 16 years old. I grew up in an Air Force family and lived in Germany, Japan, and many of the United States.

Why I am a Mormon

I had been searching for something to complete my life, but I thought it would be along the lines of yoga or mountain biking. Instead, I was converted by two missionaries who came to the door one day when I was covered in paint. I told them to come back the next week when I didn't have paint all over me, and I took a copy of the Book of Mormon just to be nice. I started reading the Book of Mormon and I knew it held the answers to the questions that I had. In particular, the Church holds and teaches values that I know to be correct and I know that if I follow those values I can return to Heavenly Father. The values also help me to lead a good life here on earth with my earthly family. I know that the gospel is true and that comforts me and lets me know I am on the right path. I can find the answer to any question in the gospel. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a way of life that feels right. Even though I treasure my free time, and the Church asks a commitment of time from each of its members, I don't mind giving my time and devoting my time to the LDS Church. It doesn't dictate my whole life - I am the only one in my family in the Church, and I have friends outside the Church, and a job, and hobbies. I am a Mormon because being a Mormon holds all the answers and all the truths I need and want in my life.

How I live my faith

The easiest way for me to tell you how I live my faith is to say that I embrace the teachings of the gospel and the values of the Church in my daily life. I try to follow in Jesus' footsteps and give back to Heavenly Father by being kind to my fellow humans. I have had several callings during my time in the Church, but my favorite has been teaching adults. When I teach a lesson I like to make sure that the audience takes something home with them to think about during the week. RIght now I am a lay missionary, which means I get to go out with the missionaries and teach lessons to people who are investigating the Church, or just visit members who might need a boost. I try to live the gospel in everything I do. It isn't always possible ... I am still a human being ... but I feel good when I succeed.
