Hi I'm Tim Harbison

I'm a college student majoring in Physics. I love reading and writing books. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently going to school to get a degree in Physics and Chemistry. I plan on going into a field in nanotechnology some day. My amazing parents have 4 sons and I am the second oldest in the group. My favorite thing to do is read. I love fantasy and science fiction books but I have been known to read just about anything. I also love country music and playing the piano. I won the Texas state championship in traditional karate back in 2009, but I was stopped from continuing on to the national level when I was called to serve a mission in San Diego California. Now I spend my time working, going to school, carrying out my church responsibilities, and having fun being a college student.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church. My parents and grandparents were all members as well. So throughout my life it was easy to be a member of the church. My personal conversion happened when it suddenly became a hard thing to do. I was called to serve a mission and I had to choose between continuing karate and my education, or put it on hold for 2 years while I served in a place I'd never been before. It took a lot of soul searching and prayer and I had to make a number of changes in my life, but eventually I got an answer from the Lord of what I needed to do and I left to serve a mission. Over the next 2 years I really learned what it meant to rely on Christ. I was in a strange place far from home and I was teaching people everyday in a language I didn't know. But, as I read the scriptures and prayed, Christ strengthened me until I was able to accomplish the task He had given me and I gained a powerful testimony that this is His church. I testify that through the Book of Mormon and prayer any person can come to know that this is Christ's church. Once someone receives that knowledge from God nothing can take that knowledge away, and they will also come to know what they need to do to return to live with God again after this life. There is no greater goal or blessing than to be able to return to live with our Heavenly Father with our families. And it is because of the Atonement of Christ that we have been given the ability to receive this great blessing.

How I live my faith

I love Jesus Christ and try to live as he would every day. I try to act in such a way that people can identify me as a follower of Christ simply by my actions. I feel that the best way to be a disciple of Jesus Christ is to let it shine from me. If I live my life as Christ would have me live it and make sure people know who I am and what I stand for, I will always be ready to give an answer whenever someone wants to know more about the gospel and I will be able to inspire the people around me to live a better and more Christlike life. I have been blessed to be able to serve in many areas of the church from a full-time missionary to an adult Sunday School teacher to my current calling as a coordinator for weekly spiritual meetings for young single adults in my local area.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Tim Harbison
The Book of Mormon is another volume of scripture that is similar to the Bible. It is another testament of Jesus Christ and I helps increase our faith in His divine mission. It is a record of the people who lived on the American continent around the same time that the Bible takes place in Jerusalem. The people in America believed in Christ and had prophets and revelation just like the Jews at Jerusalem. They wrote down their teachings and we received this record in our day through the prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon works as a companion to the Bible and helps us to gain a better understanding of the teachings of the Bible. The focal point of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus Christ himself appears to the people in America after is ascension in the Bible. After arriving, He taught His gospel to the people and worked many miracles. This extra witness of Christ helps us to solidify our testimony and increase our faith in Him. Another major purpose of the Book of Mormon is that we are promised that if we ask God if it is true in the name of Christ we will be blessed with an understanding of the truthfulness of the record by the power of the Holy Ghost. This knowledge can then lead us to know that we have a prophet today to lead and guide us so that we may know where to look to receive guidance from our Heavenly Father in our day. What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

Tim Harbison
The missionaries purpose is to help others to come unto Christ. When they stop by your house it is because they want to share with you and your family something that has brought them much happiness in their lives. They will share a message with you about Jesus Christ and His Atonement. They will teach you about where we come from, why we are here, and where we go after this life. They will also teach you how to receive answers to your prayers and how you can know for yourself that these things are true. They will help you understand what your relationship to God is, what He has done to bless you in your life, and how much you mean to Him. Missionaries are also willing to serve in other ways if your family has a need that they can help fulfill. Show more Show less

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Tim Harbison
After Christ was killed, the church was left in the hands of the apostles. These apostles had received the authority from Christ to run His church and to administer the ordinances therein. Over time the apostles were all killed and, due to the wickedness of the people, this authority was not passed on to anyone else. The church was left without the direct guidance of someone with Christ's authority. People tried their best to follow the teachings of the Bible, but confusion began to enter into the church and people began to disagree about key doctrines. Without Christ's authority to lead the church, people began to start their own churches while trying to find the truth. Unfortunately, none of these churches had the authority to perform ordinances like baptism that are essential for us to return to live with our Heavenly Father again. Thankfully, after many years in darkness, God called a new prophet and restored His authority to the earth. Along with this authority came to ability to baptize and perform the necessary ordinances to allow us to return to live with God. There was also a return of revelation and guidance from God to dispel the confusion that had existed in the world for so many years. Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon as tangible evidence for all of us that this restoration is truly the restoration of Christ's church. It is a great blessing to have the truth and authority on the earth once again and know that we are being led by a servant of the Lord. Show more Show less
