Hi I'm Shirley

I am a happy fourth generation Mormon.

About Me

I lived in a completely Mormon community until I went to college where I majored in Physical Education and Health, which would prepare me with knowledge about how the body works so I could continue teaching dance. I had been teaching dance since the age of twelve. While in college and two years after marriage I taught ballet, tap, and ballroom in a professional school. While my husband completed his ScD I did fund-raising for an Ivy League university. We have five children. During the years when expenses were highest with children in college and serving missions I taught piano. Otherwise I was a full time "mom", which I loved. We exposed our children to many facets of life by giving them lessons in music, dancing, ice skating, horseback riding and swimming. We spent vacations traveling. My husband and I have seen much of God's beautiful world. We have lived on both the West and the East Coast and in between. I have enjoyed doing needlepoint. Crocheting hats and making quilts and fleece scarfs for the Church Humanitarian projects has occupied much of my time the last ten years.

Why I am a Mormon

Being born in a Mormon family naturally caused me to live as a Mormon. As I grew up and left "the nest" I had to gain an assurance that this way of life was what I wanted and was really a way given to us to guide us through this mortal life. So through prayer and striving to live my life to serve my fellow beings and Father in Heaven, the Spirit has given me a strong testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the one true Church of God upon the earth. I know there is a Father in Heaven, my spiritual Father, who loves me and has given me a road map of how to navigate this mortal life happily, through the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ atoned for my sins and everyone else's who has or will ever live upon the earth. Through repentance this allows us to be forgiven and return to live with our Father in Heaven for eternity, where we will continue to learn and progress. Joseph Smith was the chosen one to restore the knowledge that was lost because of unbelief and disobedience of the people on this earth. This Church has been guided by a prophet from that time until today. These prophets will never allow us to go astray if we will adhere to their counsel and advice. This knowledge gives me much peace as I live in these troubled times.

How I live my faith

I have conducted my life by adhering to the principles and ordinances espoused by the Mormon Religion. It is a good way of life and brings great joy and happiness to anyone. Particularly it gives one peace of mind no matter how many trials and challenges come into your life. I have held leadership positions in all the auxiliaries of the Church both in local and multiple congregation levels. These experiences are invaluable as they carry over into everyday life. I try to be a good neighbor and do at least one nice thing for someone else daily.
