Hi I'm Jim

I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often called the "Mormons."

About Me

I am a pediatrician, and have practiced for 28 years. I am married and have 5 children with my wife of 33 years. We met in Portland while I was in medical school. We moved to Arizona to do my residency, and stayed here, raising our children here. All of them are married and trying to raise families of their own. I raise citrus on our property and have over 130 trees, in addition to peach, apricot, apple, & plum trees along with grape vines and pomegranite shrubs. We also have 7 large pecan trees that we enjoy harvesting in the fall. We cultivate a seasonal garden that we enjoy growing our own produce upon. We also raise chickens and enjoy getting fresh eggs from them. I love the outdoors, enjoying hiking and fishing. I also am an amateur astronomer and have a telescope that I love to take out and view through, when it is not hot outside. I have been involved with scouting for over 15 year. All of my sons became Eagle Scouts, and I served as a scoutmaster for over 4 years.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were converts to the church, so for all intents and purposes I was raised in an LDS home. However, I strayed from the faith in my high school years and did not adhere to gospel principles. When I left home to go to college, I realized I must find out for myself whether the tenets of this religion were what they were purported to be. Through study, fasting and prayer I came to gain my own personal testimony. I chose to serve a mission for the church, and served among the Navajo Indians in the 4 corners area of the USA. From that time I have strived to live the gospel as best as I could, despite my own personal foibles and weaknesses. It is through living the principles of the gospel of Jesus Christ, as found in the "Mormon" religion, that one can have the companionship of the Spirit of the Lord constantly in your own personal life, and thereby gain your own testimony of it's truth. I have found that out for myself. I know that God is our literal Father in Heaven. I know that his Son, Jesus Christ, His only begotten in the flesh, is our Saviour and the Redeemer of the world. I know that He stands at the head of His church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (otherwise know as the Mormons). I know that those who lead His church today have been called by Him. They are apostles and prophets, just like Peter, James and John in the meridian of time. It is the Holy Ghost who guides and directs the mortal leaders of His church in these latter days. Thereby, God directs his church today, like He did in ancient times.

How I live my faith

I have had numerous opportunites to serve in the church. I have had the blessing of serving in two single adult ward bishoprics and one "typical" ward bishopric -- where we supervised the activities of the respective congregations. Currently, I serve as the Stake Patriarch where I have the privilege of giving a special priesthood blessing to those who are recommended by their leaders of being worthy to receive such. My wife serves as my scribe. I am also assigned to oversee several families in my congregation of members, looking out for their temporal and spiritual welfare as their Home Teacher. I strive to be an example of Christ as I work my job.
