Hi I'm Jane

I'm a Utah native. A BYU graduate. An English professor. A mom. A wife... and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a working mom with a husband and two kids--12 and 10--and an adorable dog named Sneakers. I love my job and my family and my Church. My son has spinal muscular atrophy which is a neuromuscular disease, and he is unable to walk. I enjoy talking with my son, playing piano duets with my daughter, and watching re-runs of the X-Files with my husband. My days are filled with work and family responsibilities, but I also enjoy working out, reading and sitting on the back porch in the cool Colorado air. My son has taught me that every day on earth is a beautiful, precious day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church. In fact, I come from a long line of Mormon pioneer heritage. But my activity in the Church has been my choice--a choice made through prayer and faith. The Gospel centers my life in a crazy, topsy-turvy world. I know who I am. I know my purpose on earth. I know where I'll go when my life ends on earth. It isn't always easy. Sometimes I look at my son and ask why and want to blame someone--God, myself, anyone--but then a calming feeling reaches my heart, and I know that God is here to help me, to help my children, to help my family. I know that God lives. I know that He loves me. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve in my Church. It is one of the things I love about being a Mormon--I get to do things. Right now I serve as an organist at our Sunday meeting. I don't get paid. It's volunteer. I don't have a lot of training, but I enjoy the challenge. My daughter sits with me at the organ and helps me, and I especially like that time we get to spend together at Church.
