Hi I'm Ken

I grew up in southern California, and am now living in southern Texas. I'm a member of the LDS Church, also known as a Mormon.

About Me

I have four children, and a wonderful wife. We enjoy camping, hiking, geocaching, road trips, video games, and generally hanging out together. I work in computer security, and enjoy building computer networks and writing opensource software as a hobby. I enjoy tennis, weightlifting, and body surfing (when I'm able to return to the ocean).

Why I am a Mormon

I want to be with my family forever: I always want to be married to my beautiful wife, and always want to be my children's dad. Eternal marriage was one of the things established when Jesus Christ's church was restored to the earth. If I do everything I can to be a loving husband and father, *and* I follow the commandments that God has given, my wife and I have received the promise that our marriage will last forever. It won't just be "until death do you part." Of course, it's not without work, faith, repentance, and prayer. My wife and I are equal partners in this marriage. The Church continually teaches us how to be more loving, patient, and compassionate with each other, our children, and others. It helps us be better citizens of our country, and stewards of the Earth. At times it's not easy to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ, but it is *so* worth it! I wouldn't trade anything for the peace my wife and I feel when we're in harmony with God and each other. It's a contentment that I haven't found anywhere else, nor with anything else. I've come to know that that Jesus Christ actually did live on the Earth, and taught many things in the Bible and other scriptures. He suffered for the sins of all of God's children, died on the cross, and rose from the dead after three days, just like He said he would. I've been around enough to know that it's not common to be sure of anything in life, but I *am* sure of God's love for His children, and especially of His love for me. I know He wants me to follow His Son, and obey His laws, not to control me, but because he knows that it is the only way I can find lasting happiness. He has placed true prophets on the Earth again, that can teach us what He wants us to do and know (not always what we want to hear :-) in order to be better people. I know that God hears my prayers, and gives me peace and guidance. He will let any honest seeker of truth know these things. It's definitely worth it to seek Him out.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying always to be a follower of Jesus. When I fail, I repent, apologize to others as needed, and try again to do better. I serve in the Church by working in the leadership of a local congregation (called a "ward"). I have fun with the young men and women, and coordinate efforts to serve all the members of the congregation, as well as help others in the area that aren't of our faith. I am on the Boy Scout committee for my congregation. I attend Scout camp with the troop, and work with the Scouts to help them advance toward the Eagle Scout rank, develop leadership skills, and just have fun in challenging activities. I visit about four families a month, some with single or divorced parents, and try to make sure they're taken care of and have everything they need.
