Hi I'm Shelly Bastian Glaus

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married to a wonderful man, mother of seven children, 6 married, and we have 14 grandchildren with identical twin boys on the way. I love to sew and work with wood and paint. I also love working on the computer. I enjoy teaching so I have taught craft classes, sewing classes, and life skills classes as well as many classes at church. The week my baby left for college I went back to work, having been a stay at home mom from the birth of our first child. I worked as an Activity Director at a snowbird RV Resort in Gold Canyon Arizona. I love interacting with people and having fun. My job was enjoyable because of the people I met and worked with. People are the real treasures of this life! I cherish my family and friends. My husband and I have been called on a mission to serve at the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii. We are so excited to be able to serve the students and the people there.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have found the gospel to be beautiful, easy to live and always brings joy and blessings into my life. I love to attend church and learn from the scriptures. Some of my heroes are David, who slew Goliath, Daniel, who survived the lion's den, Noah, who was persecuted for his dedication to God and built an ark before it was raining, Esther who risked her life for her people, and so many more. I also have heroes from the Book of Mormon where I have learned about the inhabitants of the American Continent, and God's dealing with them. Nephi showed great faith and courage as he followed the spirit diligently. I find having an anchor in Christ is sometimes the only thing that helps me face a very tumultuous and uncertain world and still have peace. I know that Christ lives and will come again. I try to live everyday so that He will be pleased with my life.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday. I can't think of any aspect of my life that is not affected by my determination to live a Christ-like life whether at work, at home, at church, or anywhere. I have enjoyed leadership among the women, youth, and children in the church. I always have a prayer in my heart and often pray throughout the day to receive guidance and help. I had an ultrasound during the pregnancy of our 6th child and was told that the baby was compromised and needed to be delivered. I was very concerned and called my husband at work to tell him what was happening and request a priesthood blessing. He was at lunch. I knelt down and prayed at my hospital bedside and prayed that I would find him. I thought of a restaurant. I called the restaurant and asked if they would page for my husband. I could hear the man call out the name of my husband and then the VERY surprised voice of my husband saying, "Hello?" He could not imagine who knew he was there since he had decided to eat there when he was driving on his lunch hour. He came to the hospital immediately and after a blessing the baby's heart rate stabilized and I was able to deliver her a month later. It is just one example of how I have seen the hand of God in my life. I love Him and my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I know they love me.
