Hi I'm Ria

I'm a Mormon. I was born in Ludwigswinkel, Germany. After I came to the States and before I got old, I enjoyed drag racing.

About Me

My grandfather had a small farm in Germany, which I worked on, even after school. My grandpa and grandma lived upstairs and we lived downstairs. My mother did the cooking until she started working in the shoe factory. I wanted to go to college. My grandfather looked at me and looked at the teacher and said, "She's a girl." At age 14 and a half I went to work in the shoe factory. After that I got married to a G.I., we moved to America. I worked in another shoe factory and cleaned homes, which I did for 50 years. I loved to clean. I had six children, but one little girl was burned in a house fire. I went to three or four different churches in America. The last church that I went to no one spoke to me or smiled at me. I sat and cried and got up and left.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I saw an advertisement on television about a Christmas movie I could order free from the Mormon Church. After I ordered it, it came in the mail. Then the missionaries came to my door and asked if I wanted to talk with them. I was happy to. They taught me about the Mormon Church and how it was different from the churches. I had heard that Mormons didn't believe in Jesus Christ. They relpied, "Why would our church be called The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints if we don't believe in Jesus?" When I walked in the church the first time, everybody smiled, everybody was nice. I felt like I came home. It was such a peaceful feeling. The missionaries came every week and taught me. I was baptized on an early Sunday morning. After my baptism it snowed. I love snow!

How I live my faith

I treat people the why I like to be treated. I have "I love Jesus" on my keychain and it starts lots of conversations. I read the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of Great Price, and my Bible. I love the Lord and I talk about him to people. When people ask me about my church, I explain it this way. Martin Luther reformed the Catholic Church. Joseph Smith restored Jesus's original church.
