Hi I'm Sylvan

I grew up in a small town in southern Indiana. I love the outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a small town in southern Indiana on a 50 acre plot of land. I was born in Virginia and moved to Indiana when I was a year old. I grew up spending a lot of time in the outdoors. My dad distilled the love for the outdoors in me that I have now. I love hunting but I really have a passion for pre season hunting. Planting food plots, building tree stands, scouting for scrapes and rubs, and sighting in my bow and gun. I worked on Purdue University research farm for three years. Working on a farm is one of the best character building experiences ever! Its hard work but it feels good when a job is done. Farm work tought me a lot of good work ethics that have carried me far in any work that I do. I love going out to the local lake to go swimming or go out on boats with my buddies. I love bow hunting, fishing, swimming, making memories with friends and family. I love football, especially small town friday night high school football games and college football. I'm a Florida Gators fan. GO GATORS! I'm a Indianapolis Colts fan, and I love my family who have given me all the support in the world in what I am doing in life now.

Why I am a Mormon

I love this church because it has brought true happiness to not just my life but the life of my family. I first became truly converted when I was 18. Up to that point I was kind of wandering not knowing what to do. I didnt really know where I was going or what I was suppose to do. I just followed the flow. Until just before I left on my mission and I started to spend time with the missionaries by going to lessons with them and feeling the power of the message that they share. Even already being a member, the missionary lessons changed my life. I decided to do what every convert does and test the promise in the Book of Mormon, which is to read and pray to know the truth and divinity of the Book of Mormon. As soon as I started reading and making a honest effort to pray, my life changed. I felt a peace and a direction in my life. I fely my Heavenly Fathers love for me as his son. I know that Jesus Christ did atone for the sins of the world and that we can come closer to him through faith, repentance, entering the waters of baptism, and obeying and following his commandments until the end of our lives. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and that through him Christs Church was restored.

How I live my faith

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had so much to offer me as I was growing up. Spiritual strength, stronger family, good friends, programs to keep me busy and active such as Boy Scouts, activities for all of the youth. I also enjoyed going out with the missionaries whenever I could. They really helped me prepare and grow spiritually for my mission. We had some crazy experiences and some spiritual experiences together. I'm not perfect. I make lot os mistakes and I am constantly working on bettering myself. It truly is through Christs atonement that we can be cleansed from our sins.

What is being a Mormon like?

Sylvan
Seriously being a Mormon is so much fun! People look at the Mormons as restricted but I really dont think we are. I feel like I give up certain things such as alcohol and tobacco so that I can remain spiritually and physically free. Obeying the Lord and his commandments brings the most happiness in life. Heavenly Father knows whats best for his children. Sometimes we cant see the wisdom in what He says, but we need to be obedient because there in lies happiness. I love spending time with my family! Family is so important to Heavenly Father and I am so glad to have been put in a family that is built on the Gospel of Jesus Christ so that we can live together forever. I look back on all of the fun relationship building experiences that my family and I have shared together. We love to go camping, hiking, backpacking and enjoying Gods creations together. Being a member of this church has brought me the most happiness in my life. Show more Show less
