Hi I'm Jim

I'm a husband and a father. I teach 6th grade. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

There are three titles I have in my life that mean so much to me. They are Father, Husband and Teacher. Growing up the main title I wanted to have was Father. Being a father has been all that I dreamed it would be. It definitely is very hard but I love being a father. I have four wonderful boys. They all have their own particular personality and strengths. They are happy and good. I love being their father. A wish I always had was to have a best friend. One of the greatest blessings in my life has been to find my best friend and she happens to be wonderful, amazing and perfect to me. To me, she is a sign from my Heavenly Father that He loves and cares about me. My love for her grows every day. What an amazing gift to be married forever to my best friend. As I contemplated what I wanted to do with my career, I knew I wanted to do something I could be proud of. When I stepped into the classroom and met these wonderful students, I knew that this is where the Lord wants me to be. I teach 6th grade and these kids teach me how to be better each day. It is a great blessing for me to help direct them on their path to happiness. Helping these wonderful kids as they grow and develop is definitely something I can be proud of at the end of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

The main reason why I am a Mormon is because I want to be happy. I want to be happy in this life and want to have those that make me happy stay with me after I am done with this life. The church teaches and pushes me to do what is necessary to be happy. Through the church I have learned that Jesus Christ is the Savior of the world. He lived His life, suffered, was crucified and rose again all to save the world and me. Not only is He the Savior of the world but He loves me. I know this. Through experiences I have had in my life I know He loves me. I would not have known this if I was not in this church. The church pushes me to be better. In the last several years I have learned that true growth only comes through getting out of my comfort zone and serving other people. The church requires that you participate, work and serve. Even when I did not feel ready or worthy, I have been given responsibilities. Through these processes I have learned more about myself and about the Savior. I have learned to trust and rely on Him. If I did not have the church I would not have had the growth I needed to be a better person and ultimately be happy.

How I live my faith

The church has taught to prioritize our lives in this way: First is your family, second is your work, third is the church and fourth is you. My wife and I work really hard to raise our boys in the gospel. We want them to develop a relationship with the Savior because we have learned He is the way to happiness. This is the gospel and it is a joy to live it. It is very difficult to be a family but we all need the protection and support it provides in our lives. As a teacher I try to live my faith in my example and my actions. I try to live the gospel of Jesus Christ by doing what is right at all times. The Savior was a teacher. He taught by showing his love and care for everyone that was around him. I try to follow His example and truly try to help everyone to be happy. When I go into the day with that attitude I find that I am happy. This confirms to me time and again that the gospel is true. Serving in the church can be very difficult and uncomfortable. There have been many times in my life that I have not given my all to the responsibilities I have been given. As I watch other members give their all to their responsibilities I have seen the joy this brings. It can be easy to just go through the motions and do the minimum at church. In the last year I have learned what it is the Lord wants from us in the church. I have learned for myself the joy in doing the job right. In the past few years I have learned that it takes work to make me into the person I want to be. Through the gospel I have learned the joy of overcoming self. Now I know that I need to get a hold of my physical appetites through nutrition and exercise. I want to be able to decide for myself what I want instead of having my body tell me what to do. Through the teachings of the church I am learning to control myself and so find the happiness I am seeking.
