Hi I'm Berke

Elizabeth Horrocks Jackson Kingsford traveled to Utah with the Martin Handcart Company. She is my pioneer ancestor. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Idaho and moved with my family to Vancouver USA when I was six years old. I'm a father of six children, 4 sons and 2 daughters. My wife and family comes first! All of my boys achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, including me. I love the Great Northwest and all the variety and beauty it offers.. the sound/ocean, cities (big and small), professional and college sports facilities, the 5th Avenue Theater, the forests, mountains, lakes, fishing, hiking, camping and fresh seafood! My specialty is BBQ!! I love photography and enjoy the great outdoors. Our family has several favorite places to go camping with our tent trailer: Lake Chelan in Eastern Washington, Washington Park in the city of Anacortes, the San Juan Islands and the Olympic National Park. I love "hot tubs" and visit natural hot springs, i.e. Sol Duc Hot Springs in the Olympics and Harrison Hot Springs in British Columbia. We love to discover Bed & Breakfast establishments in Washington, Oregon and British Columbia. I am a "fix-it" guy who enjoys a challenge or project. I'm a fan of CM Russell's art. Rodeo's are a favorite and runs in my blood! I'm proud of my heritage (ancestors) both Swiss and English. My mother's side of the family were "stone masons" for early LDS temples/tabernacles. My father's side provided the linen work for the Kings and Queens of England. I've worked in the Telecommunications and Aerospace (supply chain logistics/ materials mgmt/production control) industries for 36 years.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was born in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I've had to stand on my own two feet, gain my own testimony of the restored truth in the latter-days to stay the course! The Gospel of Jesus Christ provides stability, peace, hope and faith in these trying times today. It IS the "shelter" from the storms of life and helps me to know and understand the true Plan of Happiness, where I came from, why I'm here now and our goal of where we are going as a Family! The scriptures are the "rod" I can hold to in guiding me and my family back into the presence of our Father in Heaven and His Son, Jesus Christ. Together, the Bible and Book of Mormon have provided ample witness (hand in hand) that Jesus is the Savior of the World, our Redeemer and my personal Mediator... to plead my case with the Father. I am grateful that the Heavens ARE still open and that we can receive answers to our personal prayers. I've witnessed many miracles throughout my life, so I can truly say, " All that I have seen, teaches me to trust the creator for all that I have not seen." (Quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson). I know that Christ suffered all things in the Garden of Gethsemane, so He would know how to succor His people in all things... to run to their aid and comfort them. I have been blessed to experience this in my life. It is true, He lives and comforts me through my tests, trials, temptations and tragedies in life. Through the Prophet Joseph Smith, our current prophets and my own experiences, I know Christ lives today! He knows me personally, and I know He's there to help lift my burdens when I struggle and ask for His help. Temple covenants and ordinances continue to bless and teach me that families are eternal and can be together forever. I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ and know it's the only "sure thing" in this life that guarantee eternal happiness. The Holy Ghost is one of the greatest gifts we can receive. He quietly teaches and shows us the way back to our Father.

How I live my faith

I try to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ in all that I do and say. I'm not a fanatic about it, but Jesus said, "Come follow me." I've accepted that invitation to try and emulate the Savior daily, to become LIKE him... to do what He WOULD do and what He DID do. I'm human and make mistakes, but I know that we can repent and be forgiven, if we get back up and press forward with faith! I look for opportunities to volunteer and give service to those in need, whether by financial donations through tithes and offerings, I accept assignments by serving in church callings and volunteering for work in church canneries and storehouses, thrift stores, local community days of service, scouting activities and eagle scout service projects. One thing I've done well in is doing my civic duty by donating over 100 pints to the community blood bank. My wife and I also give service to the American Heart and the American Diabetes Associations, to aid families and individuals who struggles with these health challenges. I try to be actively engaged in "good causes," whether sponsored by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or not... we're all in this together, are we not? We are called to be His "hands." Wherefore, be faithful; stand in the office which I have appointed unto you; succor the weak, lift up the hands which hang down, and strengthen the feeble knees (Hebrews 12:12/Doctrine and Covenants 81:5). I love listening to the prophets teach from the scriptures and their personal experiences to help us understand Christ's message, the plan of salvation to all mankind! I want to help others "know what I know to be true" regarding the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If my neighbor and friends seek Christ, and want to truly know for themselves... I know from experience that the Holy Spirit can teach and testify to them personally, through their friends the Mormons, so they will find what they're seeking for... the Savior, who "overcame the world."
