Hi I'm Matthew

I'm a father of 3 boys, a skier, lover of the outdoors, a lacrosse coach, work in investment real estate, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm married, a father, a friend and I work, play, and serve with passion. I love being the proud father of three great sons. Raising them in the Northwest has been fabulous! We share passions of snow skiing, water sports, biking, hiking, and all things outdoors. With my sons and other youth in the community I have been active and involved in Indian Guides, Scouting, and coaching of soccer, baseball, lacrosse and skiing. The more time I can spend with my boys the better! We have had many fantastic adventures and are building many wonderful memories! I love my family. I love people - meeting and interacting with people is very gratifying for me. I work in the investment real estate business and am active in the community assisting kids in Scouting, coaching, and promoting community causes. I believe we need to care and be involved in our community. We need to take a stand on things. We need to have an opinion and voice our opinions. We need to work to promote good causes. If not us who? If not now when? When we are passionate and involved we make things happen and build a better world.

Why I am a Mormon

My great-grandfather was befriended by a Mormon family in a small Oklahoma town. His family joined the Church and my mother was active throughout her childhood. After eloping and not thinking about religion, my father investigated and joined the Church. Although I was raised in the Mormon faith I had to determine for myself if it was true. For me this happened at age 18. I grew up with loving parents who taught me that I was a child of God and I believed that and found comfort in that idea from an early age. I knew that following Jesus Christ was a good thing and that his teachings and example were correct. Some of the Church's doctrines I was questioning. I challenged the beliefs and started reading the scriptures and sincerely praying. I believed that God, my Heavenly Father loved me and that he wanted me to follow the correct path. I asked him if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was the correct path and received an answer that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that this is his organization (Church) on the earth today and that he has a living prophet that he has chosen to communicate with and lead His Church. How did I know? I knew in my heart that it was right. Heavenly Father answered my prayers. Questioning my beliefs was not a onetime event. As I study and live the teachings and doctrines I question often. There are many things I don't fully understand, but what I do know is that when I live the commandments of God, and follow the teachings of Christ I am happier, my family operates smoother, my business is more successful and there is more peace in my life. Heavenly Father loves me and wants the best for me an for everyone. Living the teachings of Christ daily makes me happy. This is Christ's Church and has fantastic programs for me, my family, youth, women and men. What a great way to raise a family and with so much help within the organization of the Church. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a "PARTICIPATORY CHUCH". We have to participate to make it work and receive the full blessings. I have been asked to serve in many ways over the years. When I was 19, I volunteered to serve a Mission for the Church. I was called to serve in the Philippines. The experiences while serving my mission changed my life! I love the Filipino people and gained a strong understanding how Christ can change lives. I currently work with the young men ages 14-16. The Church has a strong curriculum to teach values, scriptural and spiritual knowledge, and utilizes the Boy Scouts of America as it's activity arm. I am a Scout leader and I teach the young men on Sundays. The combination teaches the boys how to be effective followers and strong leaders and to walk on the right paths in life. I love it! It is an honor to work with these boys and be a part of their development into men. I try to live my faith daily by acknowledging God in all things and remembering the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for me and for all men. Choosing to follow Christ is a daily decision and one that is not always easy, but I try and that makes me happier.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Matthew
One of my sons completed a two year mission in the Philippines and one of my sons is currently serving a mission in Chile. They volunteered to go and utilized their savings and our (parents) assistance. We pay monthly into the Church Missionary Fund. Payments we are happy to make! Our sons have told us repeatedly that serving a full time mission is "the best thing they have ever done"! They work hard and are exhausted by the work, but love it. Money that they and we feel like is a great investment, for the sharing of the message of Jesus Christ and out Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness. Show more Show less
