Hi I'm Val

I am a Mormon as was my father, my grand father, my great grand father and my great great grand father.

About Me

I am the youngest of seven children. My mother was 48 when I was born and I have a niece that is three years older than I am. I grew up in Wyoming and never venture far from Wyoming until I was 18 when I graduated from high school and went college in Idaho. After I earned a associates degree in engineering I served a mission to the southern United States. I returned from my mission in August of 1975 and in December of the same year I was married to a beautiful girl I had meet in college before my mission. We had our first child while we were going to college in Utah and had our second of three children shortly after I graduated. After graduating from college in Civil Engineering I accepted a job with Boeing and have worked at Boeing ever since. Since moving to the northwest I have been fascinated with everything it has to offer. I love seeing the trees, the water, the beaches, the people, the wildlife and I love the climate - not too hot and not to cold both of which I experienced in Wyoming. I have loved living in the northwest.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church and I simply went to church with my family - I did what they did. In addition to going to church my family prayed, read the scriptures and served in church callings and so did I. As I attended church, read, prayed, served and watched my family I began to know the love my Father in Heaven and Jesus had for me. Out of faith I went on a mission and in the mission field I came to know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the only church organized and directed by the Lord Jesus Christ. As I read the Book of Mormon and prayed I also gained a knowledge of its truth, how the Savior loves and blesses all people and I came to understand the power gained from reading the Book of Mormon that can help me through life's problems. The faith I have in my Father in Heaven has helped me live through the trials and challenges of life and I have been blessed with greater love and trust in my Father in Heaven. Now when I have bad days and sometime bad weeks I know my Father in Heaven is aware of what I'm going through, He understands what I going through, and He is always helping. When I do what He has taught me to do I gain a small glimpse of his infinite love for me and for all mankind.

How I live my faith

I had the privilege of growing up in a family that was not afraid to serve and counted it as a blessing to serve. Because this philosophy was ingrained into me I have enjoyed a wide range of serving opportunities. At 18 I was called to teach the adults in a gospel doctrine class. I have since taught children from 9 to 12 old. I have taught in the young men's organization (12 to 18 years old). I have taught the younger men (from 18 years of age) and the the more mature men. I have taught classes in family relations, genealogy , temple preparedness and teacher development. I have served in the leadership of the ward, the older men, the younger men and the young men. As a boy I also served in leadership of the 12 to 13 year old's, the 14 to 15 year old's and the 16 to 18 year old's. I have also served as a financial clerk. When my children were in high school I served with my wife in a band parents organization as a chaparon, member of the pit crew and financial secretary. They have all been a challenge, a growing experience and a blessing in my life. I am presently teach the 11 year olds.
