Hi I'm Skyler

I am a student and full-time worker. I love sports. My little girl has me wrapped around her finger. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I met out in Utah while we were going to college. After graduation we moved to the Midwest and just became homeowners. We have no idea how to fix things but enjoy learning as we go. She's a good sport for putting up with the crazy Midwest weather. I work full-time in the Parks and Recreation Department for the city. I am also in graduate school working towards a Masters of Public Administration degree. I enjoy being involved in the community through coordinating youth and adult sports, putting on special events, and working with neighborhood park projects. My wife and I are huge sports fans! I play in a softball league and love to play frisbee, tennis, and golf when I can. Country music, watching movies, eating ice cream and jetskiing are other favorites of mine. But most of my spare time is dedicated to my sweet, spunky daughter. We go on bike rides to the park, read books, play in the sprinklers, and watch Barney.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation for everything I do. Life is difficult but knowing there is a greater purpose for why we are here makes it easier. I am grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints because its teachings are a road map and a guide to follow throughout my life. Now that I have my own family, it is important to my wife and I to teach our kids about Christ and about how to follow His teachings. Learning together about the path Christ laid out for us will help our family be closer and be able to endure trials as they come. I am happier when I feel close to God. I feel a close relationship with Him when I frequently attend church and study the words of His prophets. God called prophets, both in Biblical times and today, to relay His will to us so that we may better live as He wants us to. I am a child of God and He knows me personally. As we strive to live a more Christlike life and serve others as He did, we will be blessed and enjoy those blessings with our families.

How I live my faith

After I graduated from high school, I was a missionary for the church in Brazil for two years. I taught Brazilians about Jesus Christ and loved it. I had many valuable life experiences during those two years that help me to center my life around Christ. Today, I try to serve those around me as best as I can in my community and congregation. On Sundays, I teach the youth about Jesus Christ, the scriptures, and the purpose of life. I help organize activities for the youth to do during the week such as working on boy scout merit badges, performing community service, and participating in sports activities. Participating in these activities helps me remember the purpose of life and how serving others helps me to ultimately serve my Heavenly Father.
