Hi I'm Mona

I grew up in Sacramento, California. I was married at 18 years old to my sweetheart of 37 years. I love drawing and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a mom of four children, three boys and one girl. All of them are or have been married and are parents of great children. I have 17 grandchildren! We love them all. I work full time as an Employment Specialist helping people with disabilities find and maintain employment. I love my job! We are living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest where it rains 9 months out of the year (or more) and today the sun is shining!!! I love to read good books, watch movies, read good books, pencil draw, sing, go for long walks with my husband and work in the garden pulling weeds. I take on-line university classes from BYU as time allows and would really like to obtain my degree some day.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized in the church when I was eight years old by choice. My parents allowed me to choose whether or not I wanted to be baptized which I respect them for. I chose to join the church because I felt in my heart it was the right thing for me to do. It was one of the best days of my life. I read the Book of Mormon all the way through when I was about 14 years old and knew the truthfulness of it while I was reading it. I have continued to read it over and over ever since and cannot tell you how many times I have read it. The gospel contained in it is as true today as it was when I first became aquainted with it. I love the Lord with all my heart and try every day to serve him at home, at work, and as I participate in my community.

How I live my faith

My church calling is the First counselor in the Young Women's program in my congregation. We have about 15 young girls from the age of 12 to 18 years old. We teach them by example to serve others in our community, how to be kind to and love our neighbors. I love to sing in the choir at church. Singing hymns shows how much I love the Savior and appreciate his great sacrifice for me. In my job I assist adults that are developmentally delayed, have disabilities or need vocational rehabilitation to find and keep jobs. It is a joy to show them that there are still good people in the world that care about others. I also love to visit with my neighbors, sharing brownies or cookies whenever we bake something.

What are Mormon women like? Do Mormons believe in equality of men and women?

Mormon women are much like women the world over. We want to love and be loved. Men and women are equally important in the marriage relationship. Children need and are entitled to have a father and mother actively participating in the home to care for, teach them by example and lovingly nurture them. I feel that it has been a privledge to be a wife and mother for nearly 40 years. Show more Show less
