Hi I'm Sally

I grew up in Utah and married a Texan. Now I guess I'm a Texan, too! And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah mostly, and I married a Texas Mormon boy who I met in college while completing a math degree. Med school took us to Texas, where we decided to apply to become adoptive parents. We are now applying for the third time, and I am loving being a stay-home mommy to our two beautiful children while my husband completes a medical residency. His education has been a long road, but we feel we live very blessed lives full of joy because of our children. Some of my favorite things to do include reading, both alone and with my children or husband; cooking; and trying new things, most recently gardening, watercolor painting, and swimming. I also enjoy finding new ways to organize nooks in our home and ways to make old things new. Currently, we are painting our old dresser to hopefully give it new life and spruce up our room! And maybe that will motivate me to keep the room cleaner :) I have many unfinished craft projects of one sort or another; I'm often dreaming up something new to do. I really want to create a children's book, and I'm trying to convince my youngest sister, who is a gifted artist, to take the time to illustrate what I have written. I am the third of five children and very close to all of my siblings, and though we live far away from most of our family, we try to keep in touch often.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the LDS church, and I was always a "good girl", though I liked to have a style of my own. In college, I started really wondering about my faith, "Is this all true? Could it be false?" As I pondered this, I realized how dark & confused my mind was every time I thought, "What if it isn't true?" Conversely, as I mentally turned back toward considering that it really is all true, my mind cleared & peace came. And so through this experience I decided to forge ahead, trusting that it is true and that Heavenly Father would continue to confirm that to me. And He has, over and over again, in just the ways that I need, because He knows me & He loves me, and I know that. I am so grateful for the peace that comes through this Gospel!

How I live my faith

My faith affects every facet of my life. In our congregation, I currently serve as the president of the youth organization for girls ages 12-18. I help teach religious lessons as well as helping the girls carry out week-night activities for themselves & occasionally the boys. At home, I try to teach my children constantly to follow Jesus' example of loving & helping others, and we gather nightly for family scripture study & family prayer. I think my favorite part of trying to live the Gospel is the joy I feel when serving others and when teaching my children to do the same. It feels so wonderful to lift another.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Sally
I believe it is simply because it is true, and those who are seeking the truth with an honest heart will feel that! I love the fact that no one has to take my word, or even the prophet's word for it. Anyone, anyone can pray and ask Heavenly Father for themselves--He will answer you directly. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Sally
If it seems like we only help each other, then we are missing the boat. We believe that every human being is a beloved son or daughter of our Heavenly Father, and as such each person deserves every other person's love & respect & service. We seek to love one another (meaning everyone) as He loves us & loves all of His children! Show more Show less
