Hi I'm Howard Smith

I'm a Mormon. I have been a member of the LDS church since I was 14 years old and it has been a marvelous journey.

About Me

I joined the LDS church when I was 14 years old and living in Gemany. My father was in the military and was a member of the church but had not attended church since he was young. One day the Mormon missionaries knocked on our door and after taking the lessons for several weeks I was baptized. It has been a marvelous experience for me enjoying the blessing of the gospel in my life. I am a husband of an amazing woman, a father of 2 lovely daughters and the grandfather of a beautiful grandaughter and a wonderful grandson. I am an accountant by profession but I really enjoy working with computers and doing handyman projects, especially woodworking. I lived in England until I was 6 years old and then I moved to the United States. My father was in the miliary so we moved around the country and the world a lot so it was hard for me to make friends and the church really helped me because I had instant friends whenever we moved to a new place. Everyone in the LDS church is so friendly and so willing to help those around them.

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel has been a beacon and a guiding light in my life and has helped me stay away from the things that would have been disastrous to my life. There is so much confusion in the world today about how we should conduct our lives and the church offers guidance and inspiration at every turn. I slways feel like I can pray to my Heavenly Father and He will help me with whatever problems I am experiencing in my life. There have been time in my life when I have experienced darkness and it is so comforting to me to know that My Heavenly Father is there for me and will forgive me when I am struggling in my life.

How I live my faith

I always try to ask myself, "What would my Heavenly Father, and his Son Jesus Christ want me to do in this situation?" When I as myself that question the choices that I need to make become so clear. One of the things that I know God wants me to do is to serve others. To that end I look for opportunities to serve in my church, at work and in the community, but most importantly on an idividual level. That is where the gospel turly serves others. If I see someone broken down by the side of the road I try to help them. If I know that a coworker is struggling with a personal or work related problem, I ask if there is something that I can do for them. I know that these are the things that the Lord wants me to do.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Howard Smith
A ward is a congregation, but more importantly a group of people who meet and associate together to help each other to learn to live the gospel and to "bear one another's burdens." By meeting together each week and periodically throughout the week, members of a ward get to know one another and can be in a postion to know when a member is experiencing difficulties in their lives and then will be able to help them through those difficulties.
