Hi I'm Ashten

I'm a native Arizonian studying Counseling Psychology. I'm a nerdy individual (D&D, fantasy novels, the works) and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I think I'm a pretty awesome individual! I am currently studying counseling psychology at my local community college while I prepare to serve a mission. I report to the Missionary Training Center in January. I'll be serving in Denver, Colorado (North). I am the eldest of four children and a dog. My hobbies include reading (mostly fantasy and historic novels), playing D&D, and spending time with my friends doing insanely crazy stuff! I love being me!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the LDS faith. My parents are unique though. They have never FORCED me to attend meetings. The choice to go has always been mine. This has actually helped my testimony of the church grow. I have realized through trial and error that when I live by the teachings of this church, I am SO much happier than when I don't. Many people think that the "rules" the church gives it's members to live are too restricting. Honestly, I feel more free when I live righteously. By not drinking, or doing drugs, or having sex, I am exempt from addiction and implications that come with immorality, such as disease, pregnancy, and a diminished sense of self-worth. This religion logically makes sense. The thought of a God who LOVES us and has a plan for us gives life a purpose. I mentioned before that the gospel makes me happy, and I'd like to reiterate that. When I am doing what I am supposed to-studying my scriptures, attending church meetings, engaging in daily prayer, keeping the commandments, participating in wholesome activities-I am so much happier. I feel at peace with myself and the world, even through hard times and trials. I know this gospel is true.

How I live my faith

I attend our three hour church meetings every Sunday. In the past, I dreaded these long meetings and often looked for reasons to avoid them. Now I look forward to them all week. I love learning more about our Savior and the plan God has for us all. Once a week I attend an Institute class. Maybe you're more familiar with the term Seminary? This is a class during the work week that I get to attend for an hour or so and learn even more about specific concepts of the gospel. Currently we are focusing on the Book of Mormon. I love love love it! As I study the life of Christ and the scriptures, I feel a closeness to Him that I don't think I could have without that study. To roughly quote the movie 'Ender's Game', "When you truly come to know and understand a person, you can't help but love them." I come to know Christ through my study, and I love Him dearly. I know he has an even greater love for us.
