Hi I'm Akemi

I am Asian American, grew up in Southern California as a Buddhist and am a Convert. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 43. I am a wife, a mom, a grandma of 3 beautiful granddaughters. I am very interested in wellness, alternative health and anti-aging. I'm always interested in natural ways to look and feel good. I love crafting and photography and sharing photos with others. I love to travel, love to dance, experience different cultures and make new friends wherever I am.

Why I am a Mormon

Having been raised Buddhist, I began my search to see whether there is a God. My "less active" boyfriend and 2 family members went to a Christmas sacrament meeting, I went too and felt a special feeling. I discovered that every time that I was around a Mormon, I felt that special feeling. I had questions and met with some missionaries to have them answered. My boyfriend and I were married and I joined the church. I know now that God is my Father in Heaven and that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that the Holy Ghost guides me. I am grateful for the Priesthood which has been restored, for holy temples, for the Plan of Salvation and for the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and we study it along with the Old Testament, the New Testament. I now have the answers to the questions that I had. "Where did I come from? Why am I here? And where am I going?" This gives me peace of mind and joy!

How I live my faith

I attend church services every single week. We have a Sacrament Service where I renew my covenants that I made when I was baptized, attend Sunday School where we alternate studying The Old Testament, The New Testament, The Book of Mormon and Church History and attend a session for women to learn how we can be better moms, sisters, daughters, grandmas and citizens. I also attend the Holy Temple 2-4 times a month by attending sessions to learn and also to serve as a volunteer. I am a Visiting Teacher and have 4 wonderful women that I visit, teach and watch over. Currently, I coordinate the program that oversees the women. My less active boyfriend (now husband) is now the Bishop and oversees about 700 people. In the past I have worked in leadership capacities with the women's organization and also with a couple of hundred young single adults ages 19-30. I find much joy in interacting and being with the members.
