Hi I'm Jennie.

I'm addicted to gardening. My husband's a gardener too. And we are the parents of eight budding gardeners. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a gardener. All winter long I pour over seed catalogs. While it snows I design flower and vegetable beds. Sometimes I'm tempted to shovel the snow off the garden to get an early start. In the spring I find the smell of the fresh soil intoxicating. I can't wait to sink my hands into the dirt. Early mornings and late evenings in the garden are great therapy. There is something about gardening that grounds me to nature and unites me with mankind. Everyone eats food grown from the earth. I love weeding and watering. It's so relaxing. Some of our best conversations occur between rows of corn. Some of my best thinking occurs while liberating the peas from morning glory. I love seeing how a simple drink of water can revive a zucchini plant on a hot day. Or how a bit of compost can pump up a pumpkin. Simple things like weeding, watering, and nourishing bring in a beautiful, delicious harvest.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith in Jesus Christ grows in simple ways as well. As I pray, study the words of the Lord, and strive to keep His commandments I feel I am growing closer to my Savior. I'm grateful for the Atonement of Jesus Christ that allows me to weed out my sins and weaknesses. Christ is a master gardener. I feel His love and watchful care.

How I live my faith

We have grown our family right along side our gardens. Of course, raising children is even more exciting than raising cucumbers. We are about to welcome our eighth little gardener. She will sit in her swing beside us as we pick beans and mound potatoes. Gardening gives us a great family project. It opens up lots of opportunities to practice working. The kids complain some days when the hours are hot and long. But they are growing to love the garden too. It's a terrific time to talk and laugh together. Gardening gives us an opportunity to share our blessings. You can only eat so many fresh raspberries or bottle so much salsa. The kids love to run extra garden goodies to the neighbors. We have collected several delicious harvest recipes from our wonderful neighbors.
