Hi I'm David

Hello, I was born in Houston but grew up in Clinton, Iowa. Now I am a Dental Hygienist here in Texas and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello, I am currently a Dental Hygiene student, a part time Dental Assistant and a full time Father and Husband. I have struggled to support my family over the last few years. I unfortunitaly graduated from college at the wrong year, in 2008, just after the recession was in full swing. I applied to Dental School at that time but was not accepted due to the recession causing a doubling of applicants that year. I then moved to get a second bachelors degree in a year and reapply. Again, I was interviewed but not accepted. I have tried many things to support my family since then from becoming a registered pharmaceutical sales rep and applying both to those jobs and other sales positions only to be denied the position because there were applicants with more experience than me. Through this struggle even though it was hard I trusted in the Lord and was greatly blessed. I am a Father of a beautiful 3 year old girl and the husband of a wonderful wife and mother.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in the church; however, I have had to gain my own testimony of this church and the gospel of Jesus Christ. As I grew I was one of only a handful of members in my high school of 1500 students. Having different standards then many of my friends I was asked on countless occasions to defend my beliefs. This made me not only learn more about my own beliefs but gain a deeper understand of why I believe the way I do. I never doubted what I believed; however, when I was on my mission in Finland we would teach about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon, and teach people to read the Book of Mormon and pray to ask god if it was true. I listened to people we taught speak of the strong feelings of the spirit they received in confirmation of the truthfulness of our message and I yearned for a similar experience. I had always believed but I had never had the "smack me in the face" confirmation so often talked about, this caused me to worry. I wrote home to my father who is a worthy holder of the Priesthood and I informed him of my concern and asked for advice. My father helped me understand that even though I did not receive that one grand revelation of the truth of the church as some people need to change their life, I still have a strong testimony. He reminded me of many instances in my life where I have told him about small simple truths I have learned and the small confirmations of truth. He told me "some people must see the whole picture in one sitting to understand, but others only need to see the dots that outline the picture and must connect the dots themselves to make it beautiful. I have had countless experiences in my life that tell me that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the TRUE church of Jesus Christ on the earth today, and that we are lead by a living prophet who receives direct revelation from God pertaining to our day. I know all that study and pray about this will learn the truth of it for themselves in some way or another.

How I live my faith

I live faith every day mostly by being kind to everyone around me and helping where ever I can. I read my scriptures every day and pray always for help in both spiritual and worldly things. In my ward at church I have two callings, I select and conduct the music sung during our main meeting (sacrament meeting). I really enjoy selecting songs that go along with the topic. I truly believe that a song of the righteous is a pray unto God. Another calling I have is in the Elders Quorum Presidency, that means that I assist the president of the group priesthood holders (Elders) in both teaching and helping them, also organizing the fellowship of new and existing members alike. We also organize service projects for those that need help. This is a very rewarding calling for me because I get to know many people and not only help them build their testimony but build my own in return.
