Hi I'm John Ettinger

I grew up in Indiana. I'm a husband and father. I'm a supply chain professional. I'm a basketball fan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived in Indiana almost my whole life. I went to college at Indiana University and still love the Hoosiers. I love my wife and my children and I love to play basketball. I have worked for medical device companies for most of my career in logistics type jobs.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the United Methodist Church and was very active in my youth. About the time I went to college, I began to question my faith and ended up thinking of myself as agnostic. I married a woman who was raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I would occasionally go to church with her, mainly to support her and help her with our children, certainly not because I was interested in the church. After a while, my heart began to soften. A good friend, who was also the bishop of the local ward told me he wanted to baptize me. I began meeting with the missionaries of the church and could feel something inside me changing. I prayed about what they were teaching me but I just wasn't sure. One Saturday afternoon, I was mowing the lawn, pondering what I had been learning. A feeling of peace, understanding, and warmth came over me and I knew God really exists and that Jesus Christ is His Only Begotten Son. But at that point, I still didn't know if I should join the church. The next day, I went on my early morning jog and prayed that the children's program that would be held that morning in church would go well. My kids were in it. I had been watching the practices and knew that all the children involved had been pretty unruly. In church that morning, I sat with my wife as the children's presentation came off wonderfully. I was overcome with the Holy ghost as I realized my prayers had been answered and the Lord was answering my questions about whether I should be baptized. A week later, I was baptized. Every single day since that day, the Holy Ghost has confirmed the truth to me and told me that I had made the right decision to join the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is our Heavenly Father's church and it is led by Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by attending church every Sunday and serving as a home teacher. As a home teacher, I visit several families each month, teaching them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and helping them in any way they need. I also serve as secretary for our church leaders in our area..

In whom should we have faith?

John Ettinger
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, my faith is in our Heavenly Father and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. It is only through faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior that we can come to know our Heavenly Father. Faith is not just a casual belief to me. Faith is an active proposition, where we trust in the Savior and place our confidence in Him. It is loving the Risen Christ and showing that love through service to Him. It is only through Jesus Christ that we can gain eternal life. It is in Him I place my faith. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

John Ettinger
Members of the Church of Jesus Christ do not worship Joseph Smith. We respect him and appreciate what he was called to do by our Heavenly Father. We think of Brother Joseph as a prophet of God, like Abraham, Jacob, Moses, and Peter. Our worship is reserved for God the Father and His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
