Hi I'm Soren

I grew up in Southern California and love the coast! I love my wife Leah, my three children, sports, and laughing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married since 1992 to my beautiful wife. We have three children from first grade to high school. I work full time as a licensed marriage and family therapist. One of my favorite things to do is spend time with my family. I love music, listening and singing. My favorite song-which I get to sing often on Sundays during church-is titled "Love at Home." I also love listening to opera-to my children's chagrin. (They'll learn to love it when they're older!) I played soccer for eight years, tennis for three during high school, and basketball any time I could. Another pass-time has been wrestling with my son. He is getting older, stronger, faster! I am involved with the scouting program and have opportunities to camp at least once a month with my son and other scouts. I hope it keeps me young, but it often reminds me of how old I am. :) I have an older brother who lives with his family in Colorado. My parents also live in Colorado near my brother. I have a sister-in-law who lives in Wyoming. The rest of my family lives in Germany. I value my German heritage and lived there for a while myself. When I can, I convince my family to enjoy traditional German food at home. Spending time with family is a favorite pass-time of mine.

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to remain a member of this church because of what it teaches me about the purpose of life. Knowing where we come from, why we are here, and what comes after this life gives me confidence, courage, and hope for a better world for myself and my children. The teachings of this church have helped me develop patience, love for others, and an appreciation for all of God's creations. I have studied and pondered on Christ's life on earth and believe that He is the son of God. He offered to come to earth to offer himself as a sacrifice for us, to redeem us from our sins. I believe that, although we don't see it represented much in scripture, God and Christ have a wonderful sense of humor. Not sure why this important to me, but in such a serious world, I hope that when we find ourselves in the next world we'll be able to relax a little and enjoy life more.

How I live my faith

I grew up in the LDS church in Southern California, participating in all the traditional religious activities including Seminary (6:00 am every weekday during all four high school years), church attendance on Sundays, activities with youth during the week, and scouting as well. I served a mission to Germany, which was a great opportunity for growth and maturity. I grew to love the German people and the country. My favorite city I served in was Wurzburg - so beautiful! My duties in the church currently have me involved with the 12 and 13 year-old boys. They keep me on my toes! They are active, often need redirection, but are bright and engaged if I can keep up with them. I am able to teach them about our gospel and the life of Christ on Sundays and then I'm able to participate in scouting activities with them during the week. It is fun to watch them try new things, even if they are a bit nervous at first. I value my friendships at church that have developed over the years. One of my favorite experiences on Sunday is to discover which hymns we will be singing. When we arrive at church and take our seats in the chapel, I look at the posting of hymn numbers printed in the program to see if I am familiar with them. Singing hymns about Christ or other gospel topics brings peace to me after a long, usually hectic week.
