Hi I'm Matt Thurmond

Life can really be awesome.

About Me

I'm passionate about everything in my life. My greatest passions are my family and my faith with my work very close behind. I deeply love my wife and three daughters. Together we love to travel, learn, play sports, and enjoy the outdoors. Our favorite and happiest place in the world is our home. My work is not "work" for me as I love to do it. I coach a golf team as my job and get to share a few years with many fine young men. I have always been a high level golfer myself and it has taken me all over the world and given me many amazing experiences and relationships. Now I help young men do the same and develop themselves in other ways in the process. I love to learn. I read, think and study a lot. My office walls are loaded with maps and I like to study geopolitics. I like to understand what I can about the world. I also enjoy good literature and successful ideas that will make me a better person, husband, father, friend, and coach. Those areas of study change from time to time. I am an amateur gardener and love to run and hike trails. I play wiffle ball, ping pong, corhole, and any other fun and meaningless game that allow me to "talk trash", feel young, and occasionally enjoy winning. I really believe life should be awesome for everyone.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because we believe the following: "If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." (Articles of Faith #13). To be a Mormon is to have a relentless pursuit of truth, wherever it is found. Modern revelation, scriptures, and prophets help us so much in that pursuit. This pursuit has led me to be a fully-committed Mormon. The opportunity to believe anything that is true is incredibly exhilerating. Real truth can withstand any scrutiny. I don't have to try to convince myself and others of things I may only loosely believe or understand. Instead, I can pursue truth in every form with all my heart and mind possess. I was taught some things at a young age about the nature of God and my relationship with Him. I know Him to be all-knowing, all-loving, all-powerful, and all-understanding. Further, I know that I'm created in His image and am His son. As such, He loves me with the same love (albeit much more pure and developed love) that I feel for my children. I know he wants me to be happy, live in harmony with truth, and live again with Him. It's amazing to wake up every day with these convictions. Life has context and meaning. The pursuit of truth takes me many places phycially, mentally, and spiritually. The pursuit usually ends in the scriptures or on my knees seeking understanding. I love the Book of Mormon and New Testament particularly. I have the utmost confidence that as I seek Him and His truth with pure intent and willingness that He will make the right path known to me. That has led me to know Jesus Christ and understand when those speak or teach His words. I know a few things very deeply. There are many things I still don't know or understand. I believe that I will come to know all truth at some point, as I seek it. My Heavenly Father wants me to understand and do what is right and be like our Savior, Jesus Christ. He will help find all truth and align my life with it.

How I live my faith

I hope I live my faith in all that I do. Life doesn't have parts, but is one big whole. Hopefully my faith isn't a Sunday thing, but something that shines through in all that I do and am. I hope my faith shines through in the home, at work, in all relationships, and in everything I pursue whether I speak of it or not. Basically, I just try to be as good as I possibly can be. I try to help others do the same. I try to be a great husband, father, friend, employee, coach, son of God, and brother to all people.
