Hi I'm Carl

I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico and I'm a Mormon. There are six boys in my family. I am number five.

About Me

I am a dad married to an awesome woman. We have five children: one daughter and four boys. I spent a lot of time on Scout campouts with my sons. Two of the most memoriable experiences I had in scouting were Wood Badge and Order of the Arrow. My oldest son and I completed the requirements for the Order of the Arrow together. Another great experience was when I earned the Mile Swim patch. I earned a Masters Degree in Geography and taught in a community college after retiring from the Army. I also taught Spanish in the public school system.  I enjoy doing woodworking in my shop. Also, Another favorite activity is exercising; I jog two miles six days a week. My sons convinced me that I should do a marathon, I started off with a half marathon (13.1 miles), and then I completed a full marathon (26.2 miles). I was inducted into the Armed Forces and ended up making a career of it. I have always enjoying travel and learning about foreign countries. While in the military have lived in and visited several foreign countries. Somewhere along the way I managed to earn a Masters degree in geography, and enjoyed teaching at the local community college.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was ten years of age Mormon missionaries came into our home and told us that God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ appeared to a fourteen-year old boy. He asked which of the many churches he should join; in response he was told that he must not join any of them. They all taught the philosophies of men mixed with scripture. I immediately knew their message was true. When Christ came to the Earth He organized His church upon a foundation of twelve apostles. Only one church on the Earth today stands on a firm foundation of Jesus Christ and twelve apostles. We have a living prophet to lead and guide us as instructed by our Heavenly Father. It is the only true and living church on the Earth. I can't imagine life without being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It answers all of life's questions. It is more than a religion, it is a way of life, a way to return to our Heavenly Father. As a youth growing up I benefited from the mentoring, teaching, guidance, and counsel of local church leaders.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by studying the scriptures daily and being of service to others. I also fulfilled a full time mission when I was nineteen; that experience changed my life and I learned to speak Spanish fluently which I have used teaching in the public school system. My wife and I are currently serving an eighteen-month mission away from our home and paying all our expenses. We are having an enjoyable experience and meeting many new people. Prior to that I served as the Bishop of our ward, later on the Stake High Council, and taught classes to both adults and children. Also, I was the Scoutmaster for several years. Later I donated my time as a secretary/clerk in our local congregation or ward. I did record keeping and kept track of finances.
