Hi I'm Rand

I'm a family man, an outdoorsman, an optimist, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife Malinda and I have 5 wonderful children. I love spending time with my family and we enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. In addition to coaching my kids on the softball/baseball/soccer fields, I enjoy mountain biking, hiking and outdoor shooting sports. I am an Eagle Scout and remain actively involved as a leader in the Boy Scout program today. I choose to be a happy person and I know that my attitude about life directly impacts those around me. When something goes wrong, I try to chuckle rather than groan. I always try to look for the best in others and focus on their potential for greatness.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a Mormon my entire life, having been raised in a family that was active in the LDS church. While family tradition and upbringing have had a significant influence on my life, when I was a teenager it became very important to me to find out if the teachings and principles I had been taught in my youth were true. I found the answers that I was searching for though faith and personal prayer. As I have grown older, I look around and see God's influence in every aspect of my life. Not as a dominant, controling force but as a loving Father who wants to help me to become the best that I can be. I know that He is real and with His help, I am learning to be a more considerate husband, a more patient father and a more compassionate friend. It is inspiring to think that I am so important to God that He sent His Son to atone for my sins. I know that God wants His children to be happy and has provided a plan to help us become so. I believe that God's plan for our happiness, The Plan of Salvation, has been revealed through prophets & apostles. They are special witnesses, both modern and ancient, who have been called to testify of the Lord Jesus Christ, our savior and redeemer.

How I live my faith

One of the ways that I try to live my faith everyday is to ponder on all that Jesus Christ has done for me and apply that to what I can do for others. I try to do those things that will bring me closer to God, which includes daily prayer, scripture study and time spent serving others. I have learned that when I set aside my personal desires and focus on the needs of those around me, I gain insight into the love that Christ feels for us. I know that Christ loves me unconditionally and because of that knowledge, I try to look past the faults of others and love them in spite of their weaknesses. Doing so helps me to be more aware of my own weaknesses and opportunities to do better. I try to be understanding as opposed to judgemental, although that is sometimes very difficult to do. I especially enjoy working with the young men & young women in our congregation. I like spending time with the youth because they are so full of energy and hope. I see them facing ever-increasing challenges in today's society and I'm inspired by their strength of character and ability to make righteous choices in the face of opposition.
