Hi I'm Jarinn

I'm a world traveler,I'm a sportsman, I'm a patriot. I'm a Mormon, a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

About Me

I am the eldest son of six kids. 3 guys 3 girls. When i was born my dad was in the Marine corps. That, of course, influenced my decision to want to be a Marine when i grew up. I have been to more countries and states then i have fingers and toes. I know three languages (English, pig Latin, and Double Dutch). I play Baseball (pitcher), boxing, Football (wide receiver), Bad Mitten, Soccer (defense), Frisbee, ETC. I have had close to hundreds of stitches, and two major surgeries. I am a certified scuba diver through PADI and, have seen two sharks in open ocean while doing just that. I am 6"1' and haven't grown for 7 to 8 years and counting. I am a boy scout. I have worked for the US Ambassador of Malaysia. I served as a missionary in the Arizona, Tempe mission.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to a Mormon family. They taught us the values that we needed to understand. When i became 8 i was given the opportunity to be baptized. I thought about all i have learned and decided yes. I was not coaxed into it. My parents would still love me if i happened to say no. I decided to say yes because my faith in Christ was high. I knew that when i prayed, i would receive guidance. Faith is some thing that is believed in that will come to pass. when you flick on a light switch you expect a light to go on some where right. I say some where because you don't all ways know how and where it will happen. My life is the result of all the light switches that i have turned on. some times the lights burn out and i have to replace the bulb... but that is enough of the analogy. I am a Mormon because i know that the book of Mormon is true. And because i believe the book is true then the prophet who translated it can't be a false prophet now can he... If the book is true and the prophet who was sent by god to translate the book of mormon is a true prophet then the church which god gave the prophet to restore to the earth has to be true. I call this the triangle of truth (patent pending... not really). Now that you know the background of my life i can answer some answer some of the questions that i am asked alot about what being a "mormon" or a member of the church of jesus christ of latter day saints means. Now you may hear it from the horses mouth as the saying goes. look down the page and enjoy the knowledge of the gospel of jesus christ that is meant for us all.

How I live my faith

I live my faith to the best of my ability. I never doubt that god can help me and will if i allow him to through humility. I live my faith so that one day i can return to my father in heaven. I believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men, indeed, i may say that we follow the admonition of Paul- i believe all things, i hope all things, i have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. if there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, i seek after there things. (The 13th article of faith of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints.) I live my faith through service to my fellow man. I have never been perfect but i seek to do what my heavenly father has told us to do. I seek to be more perfect, even perfect like my heavenly father is. charity is the pure love of christ and, i will start there.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

Jarinn
The parable that comes to mind is about the lady caught in adultery. when christ is approached with the decision of what should be done to her he says so all that watch can hear " he who is without sin among you, let him cast the first stone." everyone walks away even the "holy man" not even the most righteous among the people can say he is sinless and be righteous yet. We have to be saved by one who is sinless. Think about it... if a man who has sinned tries to die for the sins of all men he would have to die for himself. That would be selfish to say everyone else in the world needed some one to die for them but not him. "Only by and through the name of christ can man be saved. not through the name of man". No man is more worthy than jesus christ that he may die for the sins of the world. The world requires a sinless sacrifice because of all the sins that it has committed as a whole. As in the parable, christ is the only one who is sinless. enough said. Show more Show less

How does the Church finance its operations?

Jarinn
The church is held up by its members. The bishop is not payed. He has a job just like normal people or is some times retired. the temples are payed for through sacred funds called tithing. Tithes are not new by any means locate your local bible and look it up. The churches are maintained by the members that worship in it. This church teaches all the responsibilities they have to "feed the sheep" through service. I don't care who you are... service feels great. It says in the scriptures that the apostles asked what the church should be named and in not so many words christ says it will be have his name on it and he will show all that he is there. I make this point to illustrate the most important part of the answer to the question that is asked. The church is held up by its head. If the head of the church was man then it could and would fail after a while. If the head of the church is he who is perfect (god him self), then it can't fail. The church is strengthened according the truth that it teaches to the people. That is how a church only 180 years old can support a membership of over 14 million people and also give aid to those caught in major disasters without thinking twice about it. If we are up held by god we can not fail. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Jarinn
No. We don't worship Joseph Smith because of one main reason. In the scriptures it says that god is a jealous god. Simply put; Joseph Smith ,how ever great a man he was in his life, was a man. Man is fallible but god is not. In order to be the church of Jesus Christ then Jesus Christ must be in it and part of it. Just like anything in this big blue world the head of some thing usually has his name on the front of it. Joseph Smith was a prophet of god called to preach the gospel. god calls man to a position that will help them grow and give them the opportunities to help others. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Jarinn
This is a hard question to answer so i shall give my thoughts. The book of mormon was written by more than ten people. The book of mormon is actually a compilation of four different "plates". A man named mormon compiled all these plates and put them together. Hence the name "the book of mormon". Contrary to common belief joseph smith did not write any thing in the book of mormon. Like William Tinsdale (who swore to translate the holy bible in english so that all may know the goodness of god , joseph smith translated the book of mormon into english so that all may know the goodness of that god who created them. Now because of the sacrifice of time and ultimately of blood all may know for them selves the truth. Even the boy who plows the field shall know as much about the scriptures as the highest of holy men. The thing to do, i suppose, is to read the whole book of mormon and then go to the head man himself. Ask god in the name of christ who wrote it. And while your down there ask him if the book you just read is true. If and when you get the same answer that i got than you need to go out and find the missionaries. You can't miss them ... they will be wearing white shirts, ties, and black dress slakes. o, and both there first names are elder. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Jarinn
The priesthood is the power and authority to act in god's name. In order to perform acts in the name of the god of heaven and have a clear conscience while doing it is to have his permission to say your acting in his name. the priesthood is his expressed permission to act in his name but only we are worthy of it. In D&C 12 it says pretty simply the requirements of having the priesthood and the responsibilities there of. in the same chapter in more specifically verse 37 what happens when we loose that permission. There is a common miss-conception about the priesthood that women are not worthy enough to have it so that is why men only have it. It is my personal belief that any one of that same state of mind is dead wrong. open your eyes and you will see that women are just naturally more spiritual than man. The priesthood allows us the opportunity to come up to their level. This is my personal belief but you can ask others and most likely find that it is a common ideal. the priesthood is not a new thing it has been around for ages. The "permission" from god to act in god's name was taken away for a while because the people where not worthy of it. but it has now been restored to the people because there is place in there hearts for it. when abraham gave a blessing to ephraim and manassa in the bible it was done by the priesthood. God has declared through his holy prophets that "every worthy male" is to have the priesthood. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Jarinn
Having served a mission my self, i see myself qualified to answer this question. It is actually quite simple really. Missionaries save a large sum of money before their mission through ... getting a job. It is by the grace of god that some are able to save that kind of money and not spend it. When we have put up enough money we put it in the churches very capable and experienced hands to give it to us as we need it. That is the short, sweet, and to the point way to answer this. What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

Jarinn
The purpose of life is to improve. We came to earth because we want to be like our father in heaven. We had to learn about the bad and the darkness that comes through committing sin in order to know the happy and good times. You don't know just how good mint chocolate chip ice cream is compared to double fudge brownie if you have only had double fudge brownie your whole life... We love our savior jesus christ because he made it possible for us to make it past the mistakes we make in our lives. He was the only one to go through life on earth and not fall in the mud. The purpose of life is to prove to our heavenly father that even though we can't see him or touch him that we know he is there. we are here to prove our faith. This life on earth is called by many our "probationary time". Think about it like a test. You are free to study for it. You can ask for help but during the test you seem to forget it all. We are all taking the test right now. Question by question. challenge by challenge. In the age that we live in we have been warned by the one in charge that the time will soon run out. Soon the test will be taken and graded before the very judgement bar of god. This grade is the last and final grade that matters. We are told in D&C (doctrine and covenants) 15:35 that the coming of the lord jesus is nigh (near) at hand. The day of my coming ( though no man knoweth the day of my coming) is close at hand.(D&C 1:12) Prepare ye , prepare ye for the coming of your lord and king. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Jarinn
missionaries proselyte because they want to. picture it in your head if it makes it easier. you have just got through reading and studying out of the scriptures for 2 hours. You now know something that makes you feel good inside. This is some thing that is adding to the knowledge that you all ready had in christ. This message makes you feel so good that you want to share it with the world. you look at your day (all 8 hours of it) and see time that you can spend sharing that message. Why not go out and talk to complete strangers about it. The only problem you have now is that you have so little time. 8 hours is not much time when you get into it. I served a mission and i all ways ran out of time. Every mourning you read the scriptures of god, you feed the fire that burns in your heart. There where nights that i wished i could skip meals and sleep and just keep going. Did christ not go out among the people and talk about his father and the message he was sent to deliver. Missionaries try to follow the example of christ. Every door that is shadowed by a missionary has the spirit of god on the door step. what do the scriptures tell us about preaching the gospel with all our heart, might, mind, and strength? To proselyte or not to proselyte that is truly the question. Show more Show less
