Hi I'm Daniel

I'm a geek. I love to learn about world cultures.. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Nashville, Tennesee, but raised in a small town in Ohio. I am in college now, majoring in international studies. I am beginning to learn German and having a lot of fun with that! I love to read/watch science fiction and fantasy books/TV shows/movies and play video games. I love to play music. Also, I served as a missionary in Boise, Idaho.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents raised me in the Church, but for a long time I didn't really know for myself if the Church was true. When I started college, however, I also started reading and studying more the scriptures and the teachings of our modern-day prophets. My faith was strengthened a lot during this time, and now I do know for myself that this is God's church.

How I live my faith

I help people with family history/genealogy and indexing, which is taking information from pictures of historical records and making it searchable so people can find information about their ancestors.

Who chooses the Mormon prophet?

Our prophets are chosen by God and directed by Him to lead and guide this Church and He would. When a prophet passes away, the senior Apostle (the one who has been an Apostle the longest) becomes the next prophet, and he will choose two counselors from worthy and capable priesthood holders. Together they form the First Presidency of the Church and, with the Twelve Apostles, give all people direction and guidance for their lives. God will not allow someone who is not worthy to lead His church. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Missionary funds come from a number of places. There is an official section of the Church's budget reserved for the missionaries, and members can donate to that. The biggest part, though, comes from the individual missionaries giving up their hard-earned money so that they can serve the Lord. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Grace is amazing. It is only through God's grace that we will be able to live in His presence after this life. However, receiving grace can be compared to going to the doctor. The doctor can tell you all kinds of things to help you heal, but unless you follow that counsel, it does you no good. Our great Physician, Jesus Christ, has given us the prescription; "If ye love me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). To show our love and acceptance of grace, we need to obey God's laws. We will stumble all the way, but as we truly repent and change, He refines and perfects us until His image is seen in our faces. Show more Show less
