Hi I'm Sheila

I'm a Mormon. I grew up in Alaska & now live Colorado. I work in marketing. I love family, writing lists, and planning luaus.

About Me

I loved the adventure of growing up in Alaska. I now live in Colorado, and appreciate all that Colorado offers. I am married to a wonderful husband named Andy, and have one son. I love being a mother, and helping my son with Boy Scouts, football, and music. I graduated from the University of Utah and now working in freelance marketing and sales, and help my husband with his business. Recently I started a web site, www.myplanninglists.com - which gives me a place to share my love of lists. It is a blessing to live near so many family members, and we enjoy many family activities together. In my free time, I enjoy writing lists, taking Polynesian/Hula dance classes, going on hikes, visiting National Parks, road trips, planning family reunions and parties, helping my son with his activities, spending time with family.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints bring happiness in my life. I was raised a member of the Church. My ancestors were pioneers, who came to America when they joined the Church in Denmark and England. I am forever grateful to the sacrifices my ancestors made to join the Church. I have chosen to continue to follow the Gospel that I was raised in, because it is the only way to be truly happy in life. I know that the Gospel was restored to the earth in its fullness, through the prophet Joseph Smith. I believe the Book of Mormon to be true and the word of God. I believe the Bible to also be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly. I believe that we have a living prophet on the earth today, Thomas S. Monson, who leads the Church through revelation. I believe in eternal families, and this is very important to me.

How I live my faith

I really enjoy volunteering my time planning church activities - luaus, fairs, socials. I have done this most of my adult life, and find great joy in bringing people together for a fun occassion. Luaus are my favorite! I also serve on our Boy Scout Committee, and find it rewarding to work with the Scouts. My role is as the advancement chair, and working with merit badge counselors. I am so proud of the many Scouts in our Troop who are working hard to obtain the rank of Eagle Scout. The boys learn so much by being involved in the Scouting program.

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Sheila
I love getting ready for Church on Sundays. We believe in wearing our "Sunday best". I always wear a skirt, with a blouse or top & sweater, and if it's warm outside, dressy sandals. My husband wears a suit, and my son wears black slacks, with a white shirt & tie. We love to celebrate holidays! We celebrate all the traditional national holidays in the United States - including Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day. We have parties at Church for many holidays - including Christmas and Independence Day, but also Halloween, and Pioneer Day. Pioneer Day is July 24th, and it is the day that the pioneers arrived in Utah. For Christmas and Easter, there are special programs on the Sunday before, as these are very spiritually significant.
