Hi I'm Jeff

I grew up in the USA and in Japan. I love being with family and friends. I love the outdoors and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I come from a huge family. I have 2 older brothers, and 5 older sisters. Yup, I am the youngest. Everyone asks me if I was the spoiled one, but we all know that it was the youngest of all my sisters. I have been really lucky to spend 7 years of my life living in various parts of Japan. The other years of my life were mostly spent in Utah, so it has been nice having 2 homes on both sides of the world. I learned to speak Japanese fluently as a child, but don't ask me to say too much now. It is getting pretty rusty. Now I am serving a mission in Brisbane, Australia and was called to speak Chinese. So now I can speak 3 languages. I grew up playing sports with my friends. I played on my highschool football team and baseball team, but most of my sport time is spent in the mountains or on the water. I love skiing and waterskiing. There is nothing better in my mind. I love hiking and really anything outdoors. I'm a student at BYU in Utah. I absolutely love it. I really have no idea what I am going to be studying. I will definitely study Chinese, but I have no clue what I want to do for my profession. I am planning on living overseas in either China or Japan though. We'll see.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a Mormon. My parents are very strong members of the church, and have always taught me and my brothers and sisters about Jesus Christ and the Book of Mormon. Although we were unsuccessful a lot the time, we always tried to read the scriptures and pray as a family every night. We went to church every Sunday, and I was always able to see how the Lord had blessed and protected my family as we did. There still came the time, as I think it does in everyone's lives, where I had to decide for myself if all this was true or not. So I did what everyone is encouraged to do: read and pray about the Book of Mormon. And I got my answer. Ever since then my life has become better and better. It opened up a new perspective on life. I started to really see what matters most in life, so my relationships with my family members and friends became much better. I began to search the scriptures more regulary. I focused hard on my education. I started to do things not because I had to, but because I wanted to! And I knew that whatever trials came that it would be OK because I knew that Christ would help me overcome. Life has not been perfect. Really, not even close. But I just know that if I continue on the path that I have chosen, and try my best to do all that God asks of me, then everything will work out and I will be happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing it. I have been a missionary now for over 20 months and I have loved sharing this message with others. Being a full-time missionary is often challenging, but it is worth it. It has been miraculous to see lives change, including my own, and watch Christ cleanse people from their past and help them move on. One of the great things about the message I share is that it is all up to the individual I am teaching to find out if is true or not. I think that is one of the most amazing parts of the gospel. Heavenly Father loves us all equally, and will answer all of our sincere prayers. Outside of missionary service, I just try to be happy and lighten other people's loads if I can. I think that the purpose of the Gospel is to help us, despite challenges or weaknesses, find true happiness.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

Yes! we do believe that we are lead by a living prophet of God, who has the authority to lead God's children here on earth. I am so grateful for that knowledge that I have. To me, it seems like we need divine guidance more than ever and to know that God has called a prophet to show us the way to happiness brings peace into my life. It shows that God has not forgotten his children and that he is still interested in our wellbeing. I know that Joseph Smith was the first prophet in our times, and that President Monson is the man that leads and guides God's church and acts as His mouth piece for us. You can know that there is a living prophet on the earth today too. The way to find out is simple. Ask God. He has promised that he will answer our prayers, and I know that he does. He wants all of His children to return to live with him, and he will do all that he can to ensure that we get there safely. One way he helps us get on this path is by following the counsel of his prophets. Show more Show less
