Hi I'm Duane.

I love the outdoors--hunting, fishing, horseback riding, boating, quad riding--you name it. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

The thing that gives my life the most meaning is being a husband, father and grandpa. Everything else is secondary to that. Because I am a husband, father and grandpa, it has always been important to me to take care of them and provide for them. One of the governing principles I have lived by is the value of a hard, honest day's work. I learned this at a very young age from my own father. As a youth I would ride my bike to where my father worked and there I learned how to build wood roof trusses. I always wanted to own my own business so after building trusses for someone else for about sixteen years I decided to do just that and started my own business. It was a lot of work and required taking lots of risks. I enjoyed doing so for 22 years. In about 2008, the the housing market took a nose dive. As a result, I had to shut my business down, sell off all my assets and pretty much start all over again. This was a huge disappointment, but I can honestly say that the Lord blessed me through the whole ordeal. What really matters most to me is my family. I love taking my boys hunting. There is nothing quite as invigorating as hearing an elk bugle and seeing my grandson's face light up when he heard it for the first time. One of my favorite places to take my kids is to Lake Powell. Watching my kids and grandchildren learn to ski or wake board and exploring the beautiful coves is great fun. No matter what happens in life, if I have my wife by my side, then life is great.

Why I am a Mormon

I chose to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I choose to follow the Savior, Jesus Christ. I follow the Gospel because I believe in the promise that families can be together forever. My greatest desire is to live with my wife, my family and my Father in Heaven again someday. I know that the family is a central and eternal part of our Heavenly Father's plan.

How I live my faith

The best way I know to live my faith is to keep the commandments and one of the greatest commandments is to "love thy neighbor as thyself." I love to look for ways to serve those around me. One of the things I enjoy most is working with young men and to try to help them grow into great men. There are two ways in the church to do so. The first is the Boy Scouts of America in which the Church participates. Having earned the rank of an Eagle when a teenager, I've spent many years enjoying helping boys do so as well. The second way is to teach young men how to be faithful in their Priesthood duties to God. I try to be a good example to them of service, honor and integrity. In the Church we have an opportunity to serve other families by assignment. This program is called Home Teaching. Once a month, along with an assigned companion, we visit families to watch over them, to care for them and to invite them to come to Christ. I live my faith by striving to be diligent in my efforts as a home teacher which really is an opportunity to love my neighbor. I appreciate all the ways my membership in the Church teaches and encourages me to contribute to the welfare of others. I know that I am happier when I am able to do so.
