Hi I'm Shanon

I grew up in Washington State, I joined the church when I was 15. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been married for 29 years to a man who joined the church in London, England when he was 19. We met in college and have 3 kids, with just one still in high school. I enjoy being outside; I love to garden on while it's raining. I love cloudy, gray days because they are so quiet. I am an artist and enjoy studying art and painting. I often do design and illustration for our beekeeping business.I like to cook and make all sorts of things. I have been in a book club for over 20 years. It's a great way to learn about the world and get to know cool women at the same time. I love anyone who is super funny, and anyone who laughs a lot. I don't take too many things seriously and that includes housework!

Why I am a Mormon

I remember loving Jesus from early childhood. I went to a church a few times when I was young. When I was 15 years old I started going to Mormon dances for the teenagers with my next door neighbor. This led me to go to church on Sundays, and then I started going to the activities on weeknights. I was impressed by the friendliness of everyone and the fact that adults would spend so much time with their kids. Now I still live my faith and go to church no matter what. I know for a fact that this is the true church. I feel strongly that this is Jesus Christ's church. I absolutely know that the Book of Mormon is ancient scripture meant for us today. I read it regularly and find more and more in it. I also read the Bible. I have had many experiences that have shown me Heavenly Father knows what I'm doing, he cares about me and my family, and everyone on earth. I know our Father in heaven notices when people are good and kind. My life is better for all I have learned about true charity, the nature of our souls, the importance of the truth of the gospel and how it changes us. I need the Savior in my life and I try hard to emulate him. I need his love and his example. I really do believe we have a prophet today and I look forward twice a year to our conferences where we are taught what we, as a church, need to know today.

How I live my faith

I have enjoyed serving in my church in any way I am asked to. I have done many things over the years. I just finished teaching 6, and then 9 year old kids their Sunday lessons on the Savior. Now I'm helping the 9 year old boys with their Cub Scouts. I try to live my faith by being as kind as Jesus wants me to be. This requires me to pray daily and read my scriptures. I'm not always perfect about this, but I have never given up. Heavenly Father didn't plan on us being perfect while we lived on earth, and we're not. But I know if I apologize for my failings to those I love, and start every day with a commitment to be better, that that is all I can really do. I do need the Savior to be able to fully live my faith. I hope the way I live helps people to know that I love God, and he loves them. Every time we do something for someone else, we are doing it for the the Savior. We are his hands.
