Hi I'm Debbie

I grew up in Iowa. I'm a vegetarian. I love home improvement projects. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy a variety of hobbies including home improvement, writing, vegetable gardening, sewing, genealogy, vegetarian cooking, and computers. I am a mother to two sons and three daughters. My husband and I have tried numerous entrepreneurial ventures including rehabing a home, building a cabin, and owning several restaurants.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Mormon faith. However, at the time when I was about to turne eight years-old and be baptized, I wanted to be sure that I was doing the right thing and had chosen the right church in which to be baptized. I prayed on my own and received a peaceful confirmation of the truthfulness of the church. However, I would still find myself worrying as the days for my baptism approached. The most powerful witness came as I entered the waters of baptism. Just before I was baptized, I was trembling and shaking inside. I had never remembered seeing anyone be baptized before and I was scared. I wanted to make sure I was doing the right thing. As I placed one foot into the baptismal font water, it was as if the water was made of a warm glow. The peace and warmth radiated from my foot through my entire body. My fears and concerns were erased and I knew that God loved me and I was doing what God wanted me to do.

How I live my faith

Currently, I teach the young women in my church. We have lessons on Sunday about being better people. We also participate in activities each week and a big summer camp once a year. I find myself often thinking about them during the week. Some of them are my really good friends and I look up to them and find inspiration from them in how they live for my own life. Early each morning, my husband and I wake our children and we read scriptures together. Then we start the day with a prayer before the children go to their school and various activities. I enjoy this family time in the quiet of early morning. It is tranquil and enjoyable.
