Hi I'm Jake

I live in Arizona. I'm an Optometrist. I'm married to the love of my life and we have three handsome boys. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I gew up in Idaho and went to college in Utah. I served an LDS church mission in Los Angeles, CA. While in college I became very interested in vision and so decided to attend optometry school in California. While there I met and married my wife and we now have three little boys. I love what I do. There is nothing quite like prescribing a pair of glasses to a child for the first time. When they put them on it's like a whole new world opens up for them. They start to do better in school and they realize how much they have been missing. My job also allows me to work a normal schedule and spend time with my family which is the most important thing in my life. Some of my hobbies are: playing basketball and raquetball, watching basketball and football (especially BYU and Boise St.), taking trips with my family (disneyland is a favorite), going camping, hiking, fishing, swimming, and taking my wife on a date to the movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the church. My dad was a lifelong member and my mom was a convert so I was raised in the church. However, I believe that everyone has to find out for themselves at some point if you truly believe in the gospel of Jesus Chirst. I found out for myself that the church is true through my own study and prayer. I believe that the teachings of Jesus Christ have helped me to live a very happy life. I have learned through the feelings of warmth in my heart and peace in my mind that this is Christ's church on the earth today. I know God lives. I know he loves his children here on the earth. I know that God chose Joseph Smith to restore the fullness of his gospel on the earth today and that He continues to reveal truths to his current prophet on the earth. Every good thing in my life has been a result of living the teachings of Christ's church and trying to be the person that He wants me to be.

How I live my faith

I currently am a counselor in the presidency of the Elders priesthood organization. I love it. I love being able to help make a difference in the lives of the people of the church. I love sharing my knowledge, experiences and testimony with them. I also love hearing their testimonies of the restored gospel. I learn a lot from them. The youth are the future leaders of our church as well as our communities of the world. I belive that if we teach our youth the importance of living a Christ centered life then our future world will be a better place. There are so many degrading and evil influences in the world and by teaching the youth, I feel like I am making a difference in their lives. If I bore testimony to only one youth and that youth turned out to be a future leader of the world and was a good and righteous influence then my calling as a teacher was a success.
