Hi I'm Brent

I'm a married student at the university level who grew up in Idaho. I play baseball, I love to play the guitar and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

A few things about me are that when I was younger I loved going to parks with my family. I remember one time we went to Sea-World in California and I fell in love with the wildlife. I said to my mom, "I'm going to ride that whale." As the years passed my interests changed and I fell in love with other things. Mainly baseball. I would play it whenever I could, I would watch it on TV with my dad and I would always try to set up little games with my friends. In addition to my love for baseball, back in high school I picked up the guitar and starting playing it with my buddies. We'd play on the weekends for fun until we got serious about it and decided to start a band! Ahh, we were nothing special but it was fun to get together and play. After high school I struggled to save some money by working at a corn maze so I could serve a mission for the Mormon church. I went to Argentina and spent two years serving the people there. I grew to love them and serving them changed my perception of life. My desire to work with animals and ride whales shifted to a desire to work with people. I'm now a student preparing to be a Doctor. I'm happily married to a beautiful girl from Idaho and soon we will have our first baby! My life has been blessed with great people and friends. And I still love playing the guitar in my spare time!

Why I am a Mormon

It all boils down to happiness. Just the other day I was talking to a friend and asked him if there was anything he thought I could do to be a better person. He laughed and said "yea you could be a little less happy." I laughed because it's not the first time that someone has said it to me. But why am I so happy? It's simple really, It's because I know that I am a child of a God that cares about me. He knows my name and he has provided a plan for me so that my life doesn't end when I die. I didn't always know these things but as I've gone to the Mormon church I've learned these things. I've learned God's plan and I've studied it. While serving in Argentina I took time to think about the plan that God has for me and for all his children and I realized that it's real. I know that he cares for me and wants me to live with him again. Because of this knowledge I live a happier life. I know that everyday is another stepping stone to becoming a stronger more perfected person. The hard things that come my way are simple things that I can overcome with optimism knowing that everything has a purpose. As part of Gods plan for me I chose to get married in a Mormon temple where I made promises to Him that I would take care of one of His daughters. Everyday I think about those promises I made and as I live up to them, I feel my love for my wife grow. I know that she's feels the love I have for her and because of it we have a peaceful home. Being a Mormon has transformed me into a real man. A man that would do anything to preserve his family, A man that would fight for God and fight for the liberties that come from His plan. I am a man that has standards. I know who I am, I know where I'm going, I'm optimistic in the future, I see corruption and evil disguised in all things around me but my feet are planted firmly in teachings that are never changing. This is why I am a Mormon and this is why I'm happy.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by serving those around me whenever I can. I try to help when I see a problem and I try to think of those who might need a helping hand. I'm currently serving in the church as a Ward Missionary Leader. In this position my efforts are focused on teaching other members of the church how to share Mormon teachings with people who are not Mormon. Publishing this article is actually one of the ways that we are sharing our message. I also was recently serving the church's men's group as a teacher. I study out teachings from Mormon Leaders and I teach them to the men. I loved doing this because it gave me the opportunity to serve my friends but it also was helpful to me in that I got to learn Mormon teachings really well. Also I have been assigned two other families that I visit on a regular basis. I meet with them, share with them a message from the church and also make sure that their needs are met, for example, food and shelter. I love to serve in this position because I'm able to make new friends and show them that I care for them. It's a great opportunity for me to make sure that the other members of the church are taken care of. In my daily life I live my faith by treating others with kindness, I'm honest and trustworthy. People can depend on me to be there for them. I'm a good friend and a good listener. Also I actively participate in organizations that will benefit those around me. I strive to do what Jesus would do and share his message through my example.
