Hi I'm Derek

I'm a water dog =). I am a water skier. I love being outside. I ride motorcycles. I love hard work o and by the way I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on the water, since age 8 every weekend in the summer with the family. I currently slalom water ski and have been doing that for a number of years. Any thing on the water is my best friend. For the past couple of years I have worked for the Boy Scouts of America and loved it. You have one guess what area I worked in. The water front. I love the Boy Scouts it has been such a part of my life from an early age. I hope that it will still be as I get older. Right now I am getting ready to go to collage no idea what I will study yet, but what ever I do I hope to be with my family, because family is every thing to me. My dad, he has taught me so much; he is my best friend.

Why I am a Mormon

In my life I have had many struggles that have really shaped me in to who I am today. The one that really hit home for me was when my grandmother passed away. That was a hard point in my life and the teachings about what God's plan for me helps me through that. As most teenagers I drifted a little, and I found my self with a lot of questions about life and even if there was a God. As my teen age life went on I just kept going to church more or less because that was what my family expected of me. I also had some friends that were there in church. About my senior in high school. I came to the realization I needed to find out this was true for my self, so I started to read the book of Mormon for myself for the first time in my life. As I read it I felt that it was true that it would change my life and help me. when I got to the end I got on my knees and asked my Father in Heaven if the book was true. I knew about this point there was a God because I could feel His spirit, but I still needed to know if this was His Church, or not. I can remember the feeling of great peace that I had when I asked that question to God. The spirit is some thing that you can not deny. I have had many other moments since that day when spirit has testified to me. The spirit with the knowledge of the scripture's is why I am a Mormon to day. I feel His spirit when I read and pray to Him. The things that He has shown me in the scripture are so amazing. I can not deny that He is there and He cares about me.

How I live my faith

I have done a number of things to live my faith. The one that stand out is the time I spent as a full time missionary for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This was the best time of my life every day sharing the things that changed my life and helping bring people to Christ. It was so powerful. Another way I live my faith in Christ is I still read from the scriptures daily. In the morning it sets the day off right to be able to set that time a side for the Lord every day. Going to church on Sundays and setting aside that day is another way I live that faith I have in Christ. It is an amazing chance for me to remember Him in all that I do. I am not a perfect man but I do my very best to help, love, and be a blessing to all of God's children. Even though I fail every day and sin I know that I can be forgiven of those mistakes. When I pray and ask for His help.

Mormons believe Jesus Christ is their Savior. Why do we need a Savior?

I believe in Jesus Christ as my savior, so you could say that we do believe in Him. That is what I preached and thought for two years of my life in eastern Washington and north Idaho. I have been in the church since I was eight years old even though I drifted for a while. I have always heard and been tought to believe and follow Christ. The reason I need a savior in my life is because I am a sinful man. With out Him and His sacrifice I would be lost for ever. He has paid a price for my sins that I could never pay. When I do all I can to fix those mistakes it's never possible to completely make it right, I still did it. He steps in and takes that burden of the mistake and carries it for me and takes it for me I just need to ask. Show more Show less
