Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Deane.
No, Mormons don't worship Joseph Smith--or any of our subsequent prophets. REVERE them? Yes. WORSHIP them? No. Just like Jews, Muslims, and other Christians revere the prophet Abraham, we Mormon Christians revere our modern-day prophets because of their example, service, and inspired guidance. But, we also recognize (and enjoy!) their humanity. Spencer W. Kimball loved sports. David O. McKay was known by the Salt Lake City Police for having a lead foot. Gordon B. Hinckley and Thomas S. Monson are both known for their sense of humor and quick wit. Joseph Smith could arm-wrestle and "pull sticks" with the best of them. Some of Joseph's contemporaries though he was "un-prophet-like" for playing games with children. (I don't have that problem!) We love and appreciate them all. To develop that same love and appreciation for a modern-day prophet, just read one of their inspiring biographies! Show more Show less
