Hi I'm Sandie Canick

I'm a Mormon. I am a mother of one daughter and five sons. I am married to a wonderful man. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Omaha, Ne. I joined the US Navy when I was 20. This is where I met my wonderful husband. While stationed in Japan I met the missionaries. I was baptized in 1979. I love to crochet, cook, bake. I have 6 children, one daughter and five sons. They were born all over the world while we were active duty. I am also a Grandma. I have one Granddaugher and three Grandsons (so far). My life is very busy these days. My oldest son was paralized in 2009, and he lives with us. I am his main caregiver.

Why I am a Mormon

When I first met the missionaries I was a bit nervous. My husband had been a member of the church, but had been inactive. We took the disscusions together, he got real excited, and I just wasn't sure. By the time I had taken all of the disscusions I was more than ready to join the church! I was so very excited to find out that there were still Prophets on the earth. That was one question I had always wondered about, why had the Lord taken away the Prophets and left us alone. So how odd was it for me to struggle with the story of Joseph Smith. I prayed about this for many nights, and then one night when I was sleeping I SAW Joseph Smith there in my room, and he spoke to me. He told that he was indeed real and that I just needed to trust my heart and the spirit! How wonderful was this! I knew for myself that he was in deed the Prophet of the Lord. The day I was baptized it was snowing, there was no hot water at the chapel! I remember going into the waters of baptizim and it was cold, but as the spirit came over me I no longer felt the cold. My husband was able to baptize me. With in a year of my baptizim Lou and I were able to go to the Temple and be sealed for all eternity!

How I live my faith

Before our son was hurt I was very active in my church. I have taught Sunday school to the 7 year olds. I was blest to work with the Cub Scouts. I had so much fun with these young boys. I now work with Visiting Teaching. This is where I get to go and visit the women in my church to make sure that all is well with them and their families, and also share a spiritual message with them. I have also been in the choir. I love to sing, and hymns are so very uplifting.
