Hi I'm James

I am a convert. I am a Husband and Father. I love competing in sports and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a Father of two girls and one on the way. I have been married for 5 years now and we just took our first trip to Hawaii and loved it. I played four years of high school basketball and two years of Junior College basketball in California. I love sports and spend the year trading off from playing in leagues in basketball, flag football and softball. I obtained my Bachelors Degree from Chapman University and was the first in my family to receive a degree. I had the privillege of serving a two year mission for my church in Tacoma, Washington. Favorite thing to do with my wife is reading novels together. What I wish I could do more of, travel with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born to unwed parents who split up when I was three and was raised with no religious background other than baptism as a baby in the catholic church. I lived with my Mother until the age of ten when I moved to live with my Father and Step Mom. My step mom who is Mormon always tried to get me to go to church with little success. When I turned 14 she asked me to attend seminary. I told her she was crazy and I would not attend another class before school, especially one that required me to wake up any earlier than what was required. One night when I was watching television she came out of her room and asked me again to attend, I immediately had a change of heart and agreed to attend. Later I found out she had been praying and fasting that day that I would have a change of heart. I attended seminary that year and we studied the Book of Mormon. A few months later she asked me to take the missionary lessons, I agreed. While taking the lessons from the missionaries I was challenged by them to pray to know if I should be baptized. Due to my friends mocking I feared receiving an answer from God to be baptized, with that fear I never received an answer from God. Shortly before a meeting with the missionaries I decided to pray for myself if I should be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I knelt down in my room and prayed vocally deciding that I would act on the answer that God would give me. I received an overwhelming feeling of joy when I prayed and I knew that I needed to be baptized into Christ church. A couple weeks later I was baptized. I know that God lives and answers prayers and continues to answer mine. I know the Book of Mormon to be the word of God and that Joseph Smith was called to restore his church upon the Earth. I know that President Monson is the Prophet on the Earth today and I thank God for his Gospel in my life.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve in my church as a youth leader. This responsibility involves me working with young men from the ages of 12 to 18 years old. We have youth activities every Tuesday night from 7pm to 8:30pm. These activities encompass wholesome events for our youth to participate in and enjoy. I attend church with my family for three hours on Sundays which includes our sacrament and Sunday school. I usually attend an additional two hours of meetings on Sundays to discuss the needs of individuals in our congregation. I also am assigned three families that I visit on a monthly basis to ensure their spiritual and temporal needs are met. Every Monday night at 7pm my family and I have family home evening, during this time we plan for the week and discuss the needs of our family. We also take time to have a spiritual message and have a fun activity as a family. On a personal level I implement regular scripture study and prayer into my life which gives me guidance and direction on a daily basis.
