Hi I'm Bret

I graduated from BYU in Genetics and Neuroscience, am an MD/PhD student at the University of Nebraska, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Utah. I love to spend time in the outdoors and spent summer vacations in the mountains of Utah and Yellowstone. I enjoy hiking, four-wheeling, photography and spending time with family. While I have moved to the Midwest with my wife, we both still enjoy photographing and spending time in nature. I enjoy many activities including reading a variety of literary genres, playing games including chess, basketball, and volleyball, and watching movies. It is hard to find time for these activities as I have recently begun medical school and also have a brand new baby girl. I love learning and am learning a great deal about anatomy as well as life with these recent changes.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of my life. I was baptized when I was 8 years old and served a mission when I was 19. Along this path, I have taken countless opportunities for introspection, prayer, and personal study. While I have wonderful parents and a wonderful family and I have had wonderful teachers, leaders, and mentors, my testimony is my own. I have read and reread the Book of Mormon and other scriptures. I have fasted and prayed about doctrine, and I have come to know and to feel for myself that these things are true. I know that God lives. I know that He is our Loving Heavenly Father. I have come to know that He knows me as an individual. he cares about me. He loves me and He hears and answers my prayers. As I obey the commandments and as I study and attend Church meetings, I feel of His love and have an increased desire to do more and to be better. I have an increased desire to serve and help others. I am a Mormon because the Holy Spirit has revealed to my mind and my heart that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has been restored to earth and that the Savior guides His Church through living prophets and apostles. I know obedience brings me blessings. I know Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, want me to excel and to be happy now and in eternity. I know They live.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in a number of ways. I am currently involved in the administration of my local ward. I help keep track of donations and offerings as well as current responsibilities of various members of the ward. I also live my faith by serving others. I visit the sick in the hospital, visit and teach members in their homes and ask about their spiritual and temporal welfare, and I often participate in formal service projects for ward members or for the community. I live my faith as I teach my family the Gospel and show and share my love with them. I live my faith as I kneel in prayer and seek the Lord's guidance about decisions in my life. I live my faith as I listen to and follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit to lift and serve others.
