Hi I'm Della

I married my high school sweetheart. I have eight terrific children. I am a stay at home wife and mother. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm 60 and enjoy my grandchildren, there are 17. I just made 10 photo albums of the times this summer we were together. We call them "cousin books". I sew, read and do some crafting in my spare time, but my favorite way to spend time is at the zoo or the Childrens museum with the grandchildren. Since the children have all left and established homes of their own, I have became a fan of flower gardening. I love to plant perennials in the cottage syle look. My favorites are shasta dasies and day lillies. Having ten in our family made me a chef of healthy and yummy freezer meals. I cooked twice a month and marked each dish so that any age child could select it and pop it in the oven. I have worked with PTO and PTAs. I love helping the chorus teachers and drama teachers. My husband and I were parent Presidents for the sports teams our children played on. We felt that our time was valued at "Prom to Dawn" and "Project Graduation". I guess my life is defined by the joy that I have in being a mother and wife. It has been a full time job to raise responsible and productive citizens. I am very happy to be their mother everyday.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1974. My husband and I were active in another church but found that we had questions that weren't being answered and believed things that our church did not teach. We were not looking for a new church at all, but a series of events lead us to answers for our questions and a Church that taught what we already believed to be true. We found that the "three in one" trinty was really 3 distinct individuals as we had always believed that they should be. The definition of the God Head was perfect to what I believed. I didn't have a definition of the Holy Ghost but when given a description of him, agreed it made sense. Also, I felt that my love for my husband and children should be eternal, not as others taught of a happy bliss in the here after where everyone loved each other the same. I had always felt that the special love, happiness and joy that I had and shared with my family my entire life, should surely continue through the eternities. The doctrine of Eternal Families was the Happiest of anything I had ever heard. I also had wondered why a loving God would not teach all the people of the world and was excited that he had actually visited the Americas and had left a record of this visit. The news that the true Church had again been restored and that proper Priesthood Authority was again on the earth in time to usher in the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, made the whole picture come together for me. I believed that these were the last days and I wondered how did we know what to do? The fact that the world had a latter-day Prophet helped me understand we could follow one person with the authority and knowledge to bring me to an understanding of Christ. Last, I will mention my relationship to God, being created in his image it makes perfect sence that I am his Daughter and that I have a mother there who nutured me and loved me and helped me become who I am.

How I live my faith

I live my faith each mintue of each day. It is not alway an easy thing but I try hard to be a good person all the time. As a mother, I have felt that it is important for me to do as I teach and not to be a hypocrite. I don't ask my children to do things that Dean and I do not also do. I have served the children and youth of the church most of my life. I have worked with 18 month olds as well as the single young adults whom I love meeting with and sharing my life. I have learned so much from others and I am also willing to share how much I love the Church with others. Some of my favorite memories are girls camping, Church dances and conferences for the youth, visiting the teachers of the youth across most of the state of Nebraska as a counselor. Besides working with youth I also have had the opportunity to be in educational settings with gospel teachers who are scholars of the scriptures and have learned so much. I have developed the habit of studying the scriptures on a daily basis, both the Bible and the Book of Mormon. Book of Mormon with our children every year while they were growing up, as well as the Old and New Testaments. Prayer is a huge part of my life and I truely feel that I pray all the time, if I think of someone who is having a hard time or is sick or troubled, I pray for them right then, hoping that Heavenly Father will help them and watch over them. I feel that my example is the best definition of me, although I am not at all perfect, I am trying all the time to do better and be more like the Savior, Jesus Christ. Since we are first generation Mormons, we are learning all the time and are so grateful for the doctrines that do not change and are the same no matter where in the world we live. My life is so good and I am happy. I owe so much to the people of this Church for helping me to develop my best self.
