Hi I'm Leslie

My father was in construction, so I went to 15 schools in 10 years! We were "social Methodists", but happily, now I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a tall, old Namma who absolutely thanks Heavenly Father every day for my blessings. You know the saying: If I'd known how wonderful grandchildren would be, I'd have had them first!? Well, it's true! However, my three are all now teenagers........and they are still a great blessing. I always say that as a teenager, I thought I wanted five children and I only got one, but I got a great one! My daughter is one of the most wonderful people on earth.........she has good qualities I never even thought of having! She and her wonderful husband met at college, went on missions, and married in the Denver temple. I'm retired Air Force and wish I could have put in 30-35 years, but I got too heavy and couldn't lose the weight, and didn't think I set a good leadership example any more. But I loved the Air Force and highly recommend it as as career. I have one brother who is not a member, but is a wonderful Christian in his thoughts and actions.......and he has a wonderful wife. I must say I do tend to put people I love on a pedestal!

Why I am a Mormon

I spent many teenage and young adult years studying the Bible. It just didn't make sense to me that Heavenly Father would talk to prophets throughout the ages, and then just stop for all time after Jesus' death. So I studied and took classes, and then one day the LDS missionaries told me about the restored church from Jesus' time, with a prophet, apostles, etc. Bam! (to quote a certain well-known chef!) Everything after that made sense. The restored church, modern-day prophets, the plan of salvation so that we can be eternal families and I can see my parents and extended family again, etc. As for the Book of Mormon, since science shows us there were people in North and South America millenia ago, why not believe they were the individuals spoken of in the Book of Mormon? There are many many books of scripture throughout the world, and I have no problem adding the Book of Mormon to the two in the Bible: the Old Testament and the New Testament. It all makes perfect, logical sense to me.......and I'm delighted to have been baptized at age 24 and have been a member for 41 years now!

How I live my faith

I am happy to live my faith as Jesus stated: If ye love me, keep my commandments. So I live the Ten Commandments as are well known, plus a couple of others that are more modern day. However, the fact is that these modern day commandments also existed in ancient times, i.e. dietary laws, the law of tithing, etc. Through the years, I have been fortunate to be a Sunday School teacher, a leader in women's organizations, and a medical administrator. Also, as a senior woman, I was able to go on a mission for the church a couple of years ago. Due to many years of administrative experience, I worked in the mission office instead of out and about where most people see "Mormon" missionaries (I prefer the term "LDS" myself). This was a fabulous opportunity to serve the Lord full-time and grow in my scriptural knowledge. I would do it again in a flash, but now have a mortgage and pets to worry about! In the current crisis economy, I find my faith helps me deal with all the worries and problems, and lets me feel more hope than I otherwise would. Just knowing that Jesus is our Savior and will be there for us in the end, no matter what, gives me great peace. I am happy and proud to be a member of his restored church here on the earth.
