Hi I'm Suzanne

I'm a music booking agent, I'm a mother and a wife and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a music booking agent for three international acts, and a teacher of piano and voice. During college for a time I toured the Hawaiian islands performing and studied a variety of things. I have a very interesting job and come in contact with a lot of wonderful musicians. What I love most though, is being a wife and mother of 5 children (three of my own and two step sons). There is nothing more satisfying to me than that. I was raised in Boulder Colorado and was immersed in that very culturally and politically diverse area. I grew up hiking and camping and being outdoors in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. My husband and I enjoy the outdoors, cycling, skiing, walking, being with each other and watching our children play sports and perform music. I'm planning on getting my master's degree in music in the next four years as our last child will be graduating from high school this year. I've traveled to several other countries including New Zealand, Germany, Belgium. Luxembourg, and France. World war two veterans are very dear to my heart and I took a trip to the site of the Battle of the Bulge with the veterans a few years back. I am now a true patriot and I love the United Staes with all my heart.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon, isn't it wonderful? I love to share that I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because it means everything to me. I have lived the doctrines of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 40 years, and I look forward to every day that I am on the earth. The feelings that overcome me each time I pray and read the scriptures are indescribable. I remember the day I was baptised and every day since then I have learnd and grown and have come to understand my purpose here in life. The people I meet each day in my profession, are wonderful people. Some of them very famous, but many of them are searching. They don't understand where they came from and why they are here. They hope that they will see loved ones and friends after they die, but they are unsure. These same people, many of whom are Christian are trying every day to figure out "life's mysteries". One of the blessings of being a Mormon is that we not only believe in the Bible, but we also believe in the Book of Mormon which is a scriptural account of the people of the Americas, when Jesus Christ came to this continent. Understanding that God, and Jesus Christ love me and know who I am is so important to me. I have a purpose to my life, I know that there is life after this life, and that I'll have the opportunity to be with my husband and family after I die. The happiest moments of my life are because I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As a member of my ward (congregation) I parcipate as much as I can because I love the gospel of Jesus Christ so much! I'm currently serving as the music chairman and choir director of our ward (congregation) at church. I help put together the music programs for various events and our meetings each Sunday. I direct the choir which is what I absolutely love doing! We don't have a paid ministry or paid musicians in our church, so at times it can be a bit challenging to teach those who want to learn and sing everything I need to in our short rehearsal time of one hour a week. We have so much fun and I find great joy in teaching and performing music. My responsibilities include playing the piano, singing, teaching, playing the organ from time to time, and doing what ever fun music things come along. My purpose is to help enhance the meetings as much as possible by helping to invite the spirit into the meetings. We have a hymn book from which we sing, and we also use a variety of other musical numbers. There is a wonderful website www.sallydefordmusic.com where all the music is free and is full of beautiful pieces of music. Often I print these off to help me fulfill my responsibilities and it makes it a whole lot easier. I try and use hymns as much as possible in the music as hymns are pure poetry to me, and I believe inspired over the ages by great men and women who loved God. Our church encourages us to focus on hymns to help invite the spirit into our meetings. I have done a variety of things in the church over the years including, teaching children, youth and serving in the women's organization called the Relief Society. All those things have helped me feel a sense of love for others and that I have something to contribute. I have had to learn how to do some things, but that was a source of great growth in my life.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

As Mormon's we read scriptures such as the Bible, and the Book of Mormon, we serve in our communities, pray, help others and try and live a Christ centered life. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, of good report or praise worthy, we seek after these things. As members we are encouraged to participate and become informed of political events and happenings, and we are encouraged to vote. As a family we attend our church meetings on Sundays; this includes a meeting where we partake of the Sacrament (bread and water), Sunday School where we study the scriptures and Relief Society for the women and Priesthood for the men where we study the scriptures and discuss and learn about the Savior Jesus Christ and God the Eternal Father. One wonderful thing in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is that we as a church universally believe and practice the same doctrine. Prayer is very important in our every day lives and we believe in modern day revelation. Our temples are very sacred places to us. We make and keep sacred covenants and perform sacred ordinances there that are eternal in nature. We are sealed there when we are married, for all eternity and not just our time on earth. Each Monday evening to gather together and have what we call "Family Home Evening" where we spend time together as a family, enjoying our family and teaching one another. We try to be honest in our dealings with others, work hard, love our neighbors and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
