Hi I'm Ellen

I am a mother of nine children and grandmother of 18. I am a substitute teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the mother of a large family. We have nine children and 18 grandchildren. My husband and I have been married for almost 47 years. My family is the center of my life. After all of our children were grown, I returned to school and earned a BA in Elementary Education. I now substitute teach, which I enjoy. I love to spend time with my family. We enjoy hiking and being outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a fifth generation Mormon on both sides of my family. My parents taught me that I have a Heavenly Father who loves me and knows who I am. Prayer is an important part of my life and always has been. My first experience with prayer that I remember was when I was about 4 years old. I was so afraid of the dark and had a hard time sleeping. I prayed and asked Heavenly Father to help me. I immediately felt peace and was able to fall asleep. My parents and grandparents were examples of faith and following the teachings of Jesus Christ. I was baptized when I was 8 years old which is the age of accountability taught in our faith. As I grew and became a teenager I had a desire to know for myself if the teachings of our church were true. I already had faith that they were but I wanted to know for myself. When I was about 14 years old I read the Book of Mormon all the way through. I was familiar with its stories and teachings but I wanted to gain a testimony of its truthfulness for myself. Then I followed the counsel given at the end of the book to read the book and then ask God if it is true. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I have now read it numerous times. Its teachings have brought me great joy and understanding and have helped to make me the person that I am today. Through personal experience and answers to prayers, I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints is the only true church on the earth today and is led by a prophet of God. A few years ago my mother and youngest sister died within 3 months of each other. I was very close to both of them and their deaths left an empty place in my life. It gives me great comfort to know that I will see them again and we will be together forever as a family.

How I live my faith

Serving others is a very important part of being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints. I am currently serving as the President of the church's organization for women. This is known as the Relief Society. My responsibilities include caring for those in need and making sure that the women in our area are contacted each month to check on their needs. As women in our church we serve one another at times of illness, death, and also happy occasions such as the birth of a baby or a card on birthdays. I also direct the choir in our local congregation. Sacred music is an important part of our worship services and I love music.
