Hi I'm Sherry White

I joined the Church at age 41. Now nine years later, I am going on a mission!

About Me

Ten years ago I married my husband, a lifetime member of the Church, who works tirelessly to be the best husband, father and grandfather he can be. I have two children and my husband has five. We have worked very hard to blend a large family and help our children who have struggled to deal with real-life emotions stemming from divorce, remarriage, acceptance, forgiveness, abandonment, among other serious challenges. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has taught me a better understanding of my not-so-perfect mortal life and the perfect life I can choose to have with Him one day. In July of this year, 2014, seven months after sending my youngest child out on his mission, my husband and I will be reporting to the Provo MTC to begin training for our mission - the Washington D.C. North Temple to serve primarily in the Visitor's Center. I am both excited and nervous. I have joked that I feel like I am heading off to Church College for a year! I am most eager to enhance my knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to able to share it with others. I love spending time with family, traveling, exercising, learning new things - piano and golf, studying the scriptures and helping people around me feel happy and loved.

Why I am a Mormon

I became a Mormon almost two years after marrying my second husband, who grew up in the Church. I had no plans of changing my life-long religion, but I began to alternate attending my prior church, and the LDS church each week. I opened my heart and mind to the possibility that his church just might be true. I knew I would have to figure that out for myself, which I did with the help of the LDS missionaries. I love having the Gospel of Jesus Christ in my life. It helps me feel a soothing in my soul that nothing or anyone else can provide. I feel so privileged to have learned the true meaning of "love" and "charity." I feel like my standards and values are clearly defined. I've come to understand the purpose of my life and that I, along with my family, can live with our Father in Heaven again one day. I love the leadership of our Church, the abundance of resources we have to learn and teach our families, and the amazing humanitarian and missionary work that goes on every day around the world. I am very proud to be a Mormon and soon to be missionary!

How I live my faith

I begin each day with a prayer of gratitude and of safety and good health for those around me. I currently serve in the young women program and have ever since I joined the Church. I have felt like working with the young women has been such a blessing in my life. It has provided for me a very safe and non-threatening environment in which I could begin to learn the LDS faith. I talk to Heavenly Father many times during the day. I love His constant companionship and how he helps to guide my through my days. I occasionally attend an adult education class on Tuesday mornings to help me better understand the scriptures, have family home evening each Monday evening with my husband, and attend Church on Sundays. I try to be kind and compassionate, maintain my standards and values and be a good example to others. I do fall short on many occassions, but every day is a new day! I love living my faith and sharing it with others!
