Hi I'm Jason Barnes

I love the outdoors. I'm an eagle scout. I served as a missionary for 2 years in California. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

One of the things I have really enjoyed in my life is scouting. I have learned a lot of things which have helped me become the person I am today. Camping, hiking, anything outdoors I absolutely love to do. Growing up in Idaho, I really grew to love the outdoors and all that it offers. With scouting, I learned a lot of life lessons including teamwork, honor, perserverance, trust, respect, and hard work. These things have helped me throughout my life and I am grateful for the experience they have given me. I have grown up as a college football fan. One thing I have loved a lot is watching the games over the fall season with my family. I get into it a lot. There's just something about the game that I love to watch, though I wouldn't consider myself to be much of a football player. It just gave my family another thing we could enjoy together. I am currently going to Boise State University, studying with a major in general business. One of my long term goals is to own my own candy shop - combining two things I love (sweets and becoming a business owner).

Why I am a Mormon

Growing up in the Church, I did not always have a strong belief in what I was taught. It came to a point where I questioned whether it was true. I wanted to know for myself. And I feel that every person who is sincerely searching for the truth comes to that point somewhere in life. I decided to find out for myself. Prayer was a huge part of my conversion. Through prayer and earnest searching, I came to know by the power of the Holy Ghost that the Book of Mormon is true, and that the things I had been taught growing up are true. I have seen the changes in my life and the lives of those around me that have been in the Church and also those who are converts. There is so much happiness in our lives. Greater peace and understanding have come from the teachings of the Savior and His servants here on earth. I have come to know that there are only certain things in life that can bring true happiness. The Book of Mormon and other scriptures provide the teachings to help us feel true happiness. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints provides the organization and environment to understand the scriptures more fully and to feel greater strength from others who have the same beliefs and faith. No matter what trials and heartache have come into my life, I have always come to find peace, joy, and understanding from the scriptures. The Church has living prophets and apostles - men called of God to guide the Church and be ministers to all people. Their words are inspiring, uplifting, and truly come from God. There is no doubt in my mind or in my heart, that this Church is true, and the Book of Mormon is the word of God just like the Bible. Peace, happiness, and family values come through these sources. I have purpose in life, and a greater understanding of God's plan for me. I know true happiness can be found in life.

How I live my faith

I recently served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in California. It is a great experience to see the changes people make in their lives as they come closer to the Savior through living His teachings. I am grateful I have had the opportunity to serve and help others find the way to truth and happiness. One of the best ways I live my faith is by example. The best way to gain an understanding of the scriptures is to live what they teach. I have also been able to understand Christ's life more as I strive to live as He did. I desire to help others and just be a good person. Anything that is good, I seek to follow and live. I work hard and show respect to others. I want to be a follower in word and deed. I want everyone to feel the happiness and joy I have gained in life because it has blessed me greatly. Helping others brings me great joy.

Are Mormons Christians?

Jason Barnes
We are definitely Christians, in every sense of the word. We believe that it is only through Him that we are saved. In fact, one of the blessings of the Book of Mormon is that it is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." It helps us gain a better understanding of and faith in Him. His sacrifice is the most central doctrine that we can learn. Everything else that we learn or do is based off of our faith and trust in the Savior, Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the Person we want to follow and emulate to the best of our ability. We are Christians, in word, in deed, in example. We desire all people to come unto Christ, learn of Him, and find happiness through Him. Christ is the most important Person to ever come to earth. He lived for us, He died for us, and He now lives again. We are ever grateful for His sacrifice, His life, and His teachings. Christ is the only way to salvation. Show more Show less
