Hi I'm Merilana

I have lived in Arizona all my life and love doing things with my family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and raised in Arizona, and continue to raise my own family here in the "Valley of the Sun." My husband and I met on a blind date, and here we are 14 years later with a crazy but fun home filled with our six sweet kids! After graduating from college, I taught for a year in a special education classroom before having my first baby. I loved working with those amazing kids and have a special place in my heart for handicapped and delayed children and adults. Since having my first baby, I have been able to stay home to take care of my children. I consider this to be one of my greatest blessings, and am so grateful for my good husband who supports me in this. I am a music lover, and have played the piano since I was young. I also love to read when I get the chance; the "Chronicles of Narnia" and "Harry Potter" books being among my favorites. My very favorite thing to do is to spend time with my family. Whether it be watching my husband wrestle or play "steamroller" with the kids, a family movie night, camping in the mountains, a night out with my husband, or activities with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, there is always something going on!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a family with good parents who taught me the principles of the gospel all through my life; though that isn't necessarily why I'm a Mormon today. I continue to be a Mormon because living the gospel brings me pure joy that can be found nowhere else. I know the gospel is true because I have put it to the test. The scriptures and prophet teach me that I have a Father in Heaven who loves me and wants me to be happy while I am here on the earth, and even beyond that time. The teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have only brought me happiness. It's when I don't live by the principles of the gospel that I find myself wandering and unhappy. I also want my children to be happy, and to find true happiness in things that are good and right. The gospel provides a knowledge of those things for them and for me.

How I live my faith

Most of the service I have done in the Church has involved the young women and primary age girls (ranging in the ages of 10 to 18) in my wards. I love being with these amazing youth and do my best to teach them to love and serve others around them, as well as preparing them for womanhood and motherhood. I have also been a "visiting teacher" from the time I graduated from high school. In this calling, I have the opportunity of going into the homes of other women in our ward to visit and share an uplifting message with them once a month, and then consistently doing my best to make sure that they and their families are having their physical and spiritual needs met and providing service to them when needed.
