Hi I'm Loni.

I'm a Mormon. I have 7 children and 9 grandchildren. I am a retired nurse. I now teach special needs adolesents and adults.

About Me

I love music and reading. I started learning to play the harp this year. I also started a lunch-book club a year ago. My other "hobby" is teaching the gospel to and working with the Special needs adolescent and adults in my area. I have 2 adult children who are special needs. And so 17 years ago, I started a class designed for them in the seminary and later in institute to teach them the gospel and help them socialize with others. I started with 3 students and now have about 38 students in these programs. I retired from pediatric hospital nursing nursing 17 years ago. I have also taught child nursing at various universities, but I find teaching the special needs population is even more enjoyable. My other great joy is my 9 grandchildren and spending time with my husband of 39 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the church all my life. Perhaps because I have an inquisitive mind, I have always had questions about life. The gospel has the answers and when I have looked in other areas for those answers, none have come with the logic, perfection and truths that I have found in the Mormon faith. I have had many witnesses from the Holy Ghost that the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is Heavenly Father's church on earth. I can not think of a more perfect plan and gospel--and I have tried. When I get low points in my life, it gives me strength and purpose. As a young woman, I read the Book of Mormon and put to the test the promise given in Moroni 10:4 that I might know by the power of the Holy Ghost the truth. I was given a wonderful feeling through my body. But I was not satisfied. Was this me or the Holy Ghost? I asked again and immediately had the same wonderful feeling. Being an inquisitive, I asked Heavenly Father to forgive my questioning mind, but I wanted to know one more time. Again the third time I was given the witness. Since then I have had many other manifestations of the Holy Ghost that the principles of the gospel are true. When my 24 year old son died, I went again to the Lord. After seeking to understand and have comfort from the Lord, I again was given a witness and a comfort and was taught by the Holy Spirit. I have never since had a more powerful powerful and lasting comfortable wonderful witness that lasted until I was satisfied and comforted. It was as though many arms were place around me and I was lifted and my mind was opened to an understanding of death of my son. I can witness to you this is Christ's church on the earth.

How I live my faith

I teach the gospel to the special needs youth and adults in seminary and in an adult class. I also lead the music in the women's church class and sing in the choir. I visit 3 ladies as part of that program and have developed wonderful friendships with them. I also have found a woman in the Alzheimer’s unit of a rehabilitation nursing home that I visit and friendship as she has no family around to visit her. This is not a church calling but a friendship that was developed after our church's woman's organization suggested we do this for someone in a nursing home at Christmas. I could not stop with one visit. She is such a lovely lady and has no one and we are friends now. Perhaps that is how we live our faith most by the daily little things we do to be like the hands of Christ.
