Hi I'm Katie

I'm a self-proclaimed "word nerd" who loves to read and write. I'm a wife, a mother, a cookie maker, and a shopper. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm wife to a handsome man and mother to two lovely little girls. They are a huge source of joy in my life and I love spending time with them! I also love to read and write; I'm a big believer in the power and beauty of words. This is why I received my undergraduate degree in English literature. I also went on to earn a graduate degree in early childhood education. Through my schooling, I have come to understand the value of education and the difference it can make in someone's life. I hope to pass this love of learning on to my own children and to as many other children as possible. I also love to cook and bake, and am always eager to try new recipes. I enjoy music - both listening to it and creating it. I love to sing and play the piano. I'm also an avid college football fan, and my family and I can be found in the stands at every home game of the season.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon for a very simple reason - it makes me happy. While I know that there is beauty everywhere in the world, and that happiness can be found in so many places, I firmly believe that the teachings of this church bring peace and joy that cannot be found anywhere else. Our church is centered around Jesus Christ and His teachings. These teachings have taught me about the importance of family, the power of prayer, the truthfulness of the scriptures, and the existence of modern day revelation. I have also developed a sense of my own worth and value as I have come to discover that God loves me and has a plan for me, and that Jesus Christ was willing to atone for my sins and make up for my many shortcomings. Being a member of the church has not always been easy for me. There have been times when I have felt overwhelmed, weak, and just plain old not good enough. But each of those feelings has been overpowered by feelings of love and acceptance from other church members and, more importantly, from my Heavenly Father. I know that He wants me to be happy and succeed in all that I do. He wants me to keep trying to improve myself each day so that I can live with Him again. He has given me the gift of the Holy Ghost so that I can make wise choices and feel of His peace in my most troubled times. My church has taught me all of these things, and through these teachings I have found happiness and peace. This is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Many of my responsibilities in the church have been musical in nature. I have played the piano in the children's and women's organizations. I have also served as secretary in the women's organization, which allowed me the opportunity to meet and serve many of the women in our area, as well as the chance to plan group activities for them. I have also had various opportunities to prepare talks, special musical numbers, and small group lessons to present for other members. Finally, I have had the chance to form special friendships with other women as I have visited them in their homes to discuss church-related topics and provide them with any needed service. All of these opportunities have helped me feel like I make a difference in my church and in the lives of the people in my community.
